Lane shifts and closures on I-93 will be required throughout the project duration; however, traffic will always be maintained. MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays due to traffic management measures related to construction activities. Drivers who must travel through the affected area should expect delays and plan accordingly. Please reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zones. NOTICE OF REALIGNMENT OF ROUTE 110/113 - AUGUST 20, 2016.

The construction schedule and associated activities are outlined in detail below. Please note: some stages are concurrent for a period of time. Total construction duration 4 years. Stage 1 June 2014 to April 2015. Tree, shrub and building removal. Existing I-93 median barrier and paving removed to accommodate traffic shifts. New underground Verizon duct banks installed. Riverside Drive bridge widened and Columbia gas work started under bridge. Begin construction of new I-93 southbound on- and off-ramps.

MassDOT conducted a number of studies over several years to evaluate alternatives to improve the interchange. Close to 20 alternatives were studied, and the alternative that replaces the rotary with a partial cloverleaf was selected in 2009.
