Jen and Gil's World Adventure: June 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Istanbul is a fascinating city. The architecture, as well as the general atmosphere, reflects a wonderful combination of European sensibility and Middle Eastern flair. They call it the land of 1,000 mosques, and it's true that e. Verywhere you look you see a minaret reaching skyward. The Aya Sophya is indeed one of the world's greatest buildings. It has a long histo. De a mosque before, they essentially just provide an open space for praying, so it...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: August 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Saturday, August 25, 2007. From Kampala we organized a 3 day trip to Murchison Falls National Park in the northwestern part of the country. Murchison Falls is the location where the mighty Nile River sque. Ezes itself through a tiny gorge just 6 meters wide, and is surrounded by forests and grasslands replete with wildlife. On the way back to Masindi where we stayed the night, our driver agreed to take a detour to Lake Albert. We stopped at the point where the Albert Ni...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: September 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Sunday, September 30, 2007. Dar es Salaam and Stone Town. We spent a requisite night in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, before catching the ferry to Stone Town, Zanzibar. Like most other African capitals, Dar is a large, unattractive and seemingly soulless. For being so close in proximity, Zanzibar seems much more vibrant than Dar. The unique Swahili cultur. The people reflect a similar amalgamation of cultures, from their many different skin colors to the etymology.

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: May 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Sunday, May 27, 2007. Well, there is no doubt we have made it to Turkey. The people are incredibly charming (and also very persuasive). We are getting a little more for our money, like breakfast with our room and way better service. And, we are awoken at sunrise with the Islamic call for prayer blasting over loudspeakers. Oh yeah, and the bread is delicious and plentiful (and free wıth every meal! We landed in Kuşadasi. And ' May i ask you one questıon? Is very different fr...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: November 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Monday, November 19, 2007. We arrived in Kathmandu to meet up with our buddy, Oren, from SF and had a hectic 2 days preparing for our trek around Mount Manaslu. At just over 8,100 meters, Manaslu. Is the the 8 th. Highest peak in the world, and although we wouldn't be getting anywhere near that height, we would be crossing the two passes over 5,000 meters, so we definitely needed cold weather gear. The trip started in Gorkha. After traveling through the tropical low lands f...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: Vientiane
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2008/09/vientiane.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Monday, September 15, 2008. The overnight bus ride to Vientiane (pronounced something closer to "wiangchan" by the locals) was long, but noticeably free of the earsplitting karaoke of which we had been warned, so we can't complain. The search for a hotel was another. Matter (Lao New Years was fast approaching), but after a series of unsuccessful attempts, we finally found a great room a few blocks away from the river. Shaped vessels that are used each year on Lao New Year t...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: July 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Thursday, July 19, 2007. Dahab - Sinai, Egypt. Ve days of relaxing by the Red Sea. Not much to do but snorkel and smoke sheesha (don't worry mom and dad, that's just flavored tobacco! And of course relax. The people are friendly, everything is dirt cheap, and the sea is clear and teeming with life. If I hadn't just taken a bus from the Israel/Egypt border, I might think I was back in Southeast Asia again. From Dahab we also took a midnight hike up to the top of beautiful an...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: December 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Wednesday, December 26, 2007. We took a short bus ride from Bundi. And caught the overnight train to Mumbai. AKA Bombay). Mumbai. Is a huge city - one of the world's largest - and quite a drastic change. From the quaint towns and cities we'd been visiting in Rajasthan. Of flavors that shocks your tongue. Into submission when you drink it in. Is technically an island and therefore has several waterfront promenades. That make for some great people-watching. Rom the Gateway of...

Jen and Gil's World Adventure: October 2007
http://jenandgil.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Jen and Gil's World Adventure. Wednesday, October 10, 2007. Being in Namibia almost feels like being in a western country. There are convenience stores and gourmet supermarkets, and everything seems to be functioning efficiently. But, then your bus hits a springbok on the highway and it takes 10 hours for the bus company to resolve the problem and transport you the final 150 km of your journey, and you think to yourself, nah, "TIA" (This Is Africa). The Smoke That Thunders. We were not sure w. Hat to exp...
