Bertrand Russell - Don't Forget to Eat Brains
http://vargr23.livejournal.com/107727.html
Bertrand Russell - Dont Forget to Eat Brains. 24 August 2009 @ 10:31 pm. I read this today. It moved me. In my wildest dreams I aspire to have the impact on the world that he did. WHAT I HAVE LIVED FOR. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts of men. I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to apprehend the Pythagorean power by which number holds sway above the flux. A little of this, but not much, I have achieved. Bertrand Russell, July 1956.

Planck Units / Planck's Constant / Planck Scale: physics
http://physics.livejournal.com/551212.html
No Ones Hero, 1 am 0, the Fool. (. No Ones Hero, 1 am 0, the Fool. Planck Units / Planck's Constant / Planck Scale. I was wondering if anyone who actually knows his or her stuff might be willing to have a bit of a dialogue about Planck Units, Planck's Constant, and/or the Planck Scale with a total layperson? For instance, the Wikipedia article says:. These units are also known as natural units. Because the origin of their definition comes only from properties of nature and not from any human construct.

This is Not A Pipe - Thoughts of a Mind

This is Not A Pipe - Thoughts of a Mind. This is Not A Pipe. Laquo; previous entry. Next entry ». Feb 18th, 2009 06:16 pm. I recently discovered this image. By René Magritte, a Belgian surrealist artist. The caption translates as This is not a pipe, which makes us think about the abstract representation of concrete or abstract ideas. This concept of how intuition can trick us can be easily seen in the following example. Take a look at the following:. After all, the word representation is self-defining:.

Happenings in Sunalta last night?: calgarians
http://calgarians.livejournal.com/1745715.html
Chris Patrick Carolan (. Happenings in Sunalta last night? Wondering if anyone knows what the heck was going on in Sunalta around 11:30pm last night? There were several parked police cruisers with their lights going all over the neighborhood; there were at least three at Sacred Heart school, one up by the new C-Train station, and one parked at Heritage Music. I also spotted a K9 unit on foot on 16th Street and 13th Ave. Post a new comment. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal.

Earthquakes: physics
http://physics.livejournal.com/551654.html
Is there anyone who has any seismology knowledge/experience here? I have some questions about why earthquakes make noise. Background: I live in Christchurch, NZ, and we get a lot of quakes nowadays(! Elsewhere, I've found a suggestion that higher frequency (audible to humans) vibrations reach the surface when the quakes are shallow. That's helpful - but then, why don't all our quakes make noise, since they're all shallow? Or am I simply better at hearing quakes than my partner? Thank you in advance :).
