Unless you stay far away from the city, public transportation is better and quite often faster. ZVV is the authority and has an English website. There are detailed information about all the aspects of it so I'll just add a few things. 3 days ZurichCard gives you a very good value and would be ideal for your guests as it covers the airport too.
