I have smoked since I was nineteen and the thought that I’ve smoked for more than half my life has filled me with horror. I will have to be 53 before more than half my life will have been as a non-smoker, and even then I smoked on and off through my teens, so probably I need to be sixty! And I have realised that I have a responsibility to my wife to live as long as possible and not leave her on her own.
