To be held at Blue Ridge Jr. High at 8:30 AM. This assembly will be a fun educational and interactive event discussing genetics, rare diseases, and highlighting the courageous students in the White Mountains who fight a daily battle with a rare disease. Scientist and staff from TGen’s Center for Rare Childhood Disorders will be at this assembly. The Elementary School will have a contest to see which class can collect the most change. Click here. Although rare and genetic diseases, and many times the symptoms, are uncommon to most doctors, rare diseases as a whole represent a large medical challenge. Combine this with the lack of financial or market incentives to treat or cure rare diseases, and you have a serious public health problem. 30 million people in the United States are living with rare diseases.
