Two Black Country Birders

Two Black Country Birders. Well one and a Brummie really! Friday, 7 August 2015. After a great night out with our Son for his birthday we called in at Rainham, as we usually do on our way back to the Black Country time permitting. We spent about three hours doing the circular walk around the reserve. Anyway I think the must abundant species on the reserve at the moment are Goldfinch, Starling and Coot! I have just realised despite the large numbers I never got around to taking any snaps of them! We finis...

Two Black Country Birders: June 2015

http://blackcountrybirder.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Two Black Country Birders. Well one and a Brummie really! Monday, 8 June 2015. Another visit to our favourite National Trust property on Thursday to take advantage of the Sun. This was just a quick get away for a few hours and the opportunity fore a nice walk by the Avon. We didn't expect much birding and there wasn't although the Herons from the large Heronry were busy fishing and chasing one another always good to see some action, the Swans weren't that happy with them though:. Two Black Country Birders. Well one and a Brummie really! Saturday, 18 July 2015. Isle of Skye and a bit of the Mainland (The Tour Part 3). We had a good crossing from Tarbert to Uig on the Isle of Skye, spotting some distant Dolphin on the way as well as plenty of sea birds, including our first and probably last Puffins of the year, this distant shot is just to remind us that we did see some! This was the view from the RSPB hide. Anyway at least the Otter didn't disappoint us! We then searched for Eagle...

February 2015 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2015_02_01_archive.html

22nd January to 6th February - Disney World. For my birthday present in 2015, Stuart took me to Disney World. This was the first holiday in a while that wasn't a birding trip and it took a little while for me to stop carrying binoculars everywhere and checking every bird out! It didn't help that I hadn't been to Florida before so the vast majority of the birds were likely to be lifers. If I've IDed anything incorrectly, please let me know! Downy Woodpecker (I think). My first American Robin. A trip to Ca...

February 2014 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

23rd February 2014 - Horsey Mere, Winterton and Waveney Forest. The Sunday of the Norfolk weekend was spent more in the Broads area, slowly working the way home. An early start (much to the dismay of the B&B owner) was on the books and we headed straight to Horsey Mere to try and catch sight of a Crane. We couldn't see any but stopped to check out some Pink-footed Goose. In the middle of this Stuart happened to get bored and spotted two Crane. Meandering along to our right. Lifers of year list: 4. Was in...

April 2015 - Wales ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2015/04/april-2015-wales.html

April 2015 - Wales. I've not been too well, so a trip to Wales was my first 'proper' birding days out for a while. We stayed near Strumble Head in Pembrokeshire and had a thoroughly lovely time, even managing to get sunburnt (in Wales! I appear to have lost my lists from this trip though, so have some photos instead (I don't appear to have got any of the Chough. Bullfinch and Reed Bunting. Posted in Lesser Scaup. Subscribe to: Post Comments ( Atom ). April 2015 - Wales. 25th to 30th May 2016 - Portugal.

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_08_01_archive.html

16th August 2014 - Birdfair. August is my favourite time of year - it has a week that involves the Great British Beer Festival, Birdfair and Alton Towers. Genius. I adore Birdfair, it's great fun going round all the stalls marvelling at birds you've never even heard of before, catching up with people you haven't seen in a while and eating lots of samples of chocolate from around the world. I had three highlights this year:. 3rd August 2014 - Norfolk. Why are there all these gulls around? I don't understa...

July 2014 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_07_01_archive.html

26th June to 4th July 2014 - Tobago. A week after arriving in Trinidad, it was back to the airport to do the short flight across to Tobago. The flight is only 17 minutes, which was a bit of a novelty. The second week of the trip was to be spent here, with a view to it being a slightly calmer week with more time for touristy/relaxing things. We met with our guide for the week, Peter Cox. The next morning we met the others and headed up into the forest. We had heard the Trinidad Motmot. Are a lot more prol...

March 2014 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_03_01_archive.html

8th March 2014 - Marshfield. Stuart had already seen the Red-flanked Bluetail. But he was kind enough to drive me back across to see it. He was showing well and was a lovely bird. We also had the luck of a Raven. Lifers of year list: 5. 2nd March 2014 - Dungeness. Dungeness is always an early start, quite often after a night of drinking. I never learn. It's always wonderful though, even with a hell of a hangover and in a blizzard. There were some great birds today with Goldeneye. And a Black-tailed Diver.

May 2015 - Europe road trip ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2015/05/may-2015-europe-road-trip.html

May 2015 - Europe road trip. Sometime last year, I joked that because we love the wine so much, we should drive to Hungary and bring lots back. Stuart suddenly looked really serious and declared this to be a brilliant idea and so the 2015 Europe road trip was born. We decided it would be fun to see how many countries we could visit on our route rather then just bombing it straight to Hungary and back an. And the screeching of Swift. Overhead as we wandered around. We saw a great number of Buzzard. We wer...

April 2014 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_04_01_archive.html

27th April 2014 - Dungeness. Today was INCREDIBLE. There, gone and ruined the whole blogpost. Sorrynotsorry. We meant to go to Dungeness on Saturday, but as frequently happens, completely overslept. Amazingly, we made it on the Sunday, arriving at 9:15 (which was still an hour later than planned, but shh). We started off at the ARC pit, with a good haul of terns - Black Tern. Nice A report for Black-winged Stilt. A few feet away and had a great moment to compare Little Ringed Plover. Were out in force wi...

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_06_01_archive.html

8th June 2014 - North Barsham and Burnham Overy. A twitch was on the cards today with the lovely Spectacled Warbler. Hanging around in North Norfolk. We stopped off at North Barsham to watch some great Buzzard. Soaring above. There was also a Hobby. And a pair of both Oystercatcher. It was then onwards to Burnham Overy to see if we could catch up with the Spectacled Warbler. On the walk to the dunes we came across a pair of lovely Little Tern. And a few Redshank. Lifers of year list: 9. After a great wee...

October 2014 ~ Thérèse Goes Birding

http://www.theresegoesbirding.co.uk/2014_10_01_archive.html

30th September 2014 - Hackney Marshes. This short trip for an hour before sunset was to see an unusual visitor to London - a Nightjar, visible during the day! There was a good turnout at the twitch and it was one of the friendliest of the year, with some really interesting people there to talk to. It was also good to put some faces to names on Twitter! Lifers of year list: 17. Subscribe to: Posts ( Atom ). 30th September 2014 - Hackney Marshes. 21st April 2014 - Northward Hill and Cliffe Pools.

MOTO FREAKO: Kickin' Up A Roost! Saturday, 2 February 2013. An Evening with Graeme Obree. Lakes College in West Cumbria was the unlikely venue for an evening with Graeme Obree, unlikely in as much as we don't usually get such high profile speakers in this part of the country, but thanks to the efforts of sports tutor, Andrew Beattie, the Wild West of Cumbria welcomed him with open arms in a superb venue.
