Phill Gibson's Blog. Thoughts on Banjos, Music and Learning. Why is the Banjo so Mysterious? Solid Blue at The Flying Monkey →. January 25, 2013. One of my students related the story to me the other day of a recent business trip he took. He brought along his banjo and was playing it in the hotel, complete with picks. As you might suspect, he got a phone call from the front desk: with all due respect as a paying guest, could he kindly stop? View all posts by Phill Gibson →. Why is the Banjo so Mysterious?

Banjo Player Should Do. Number 10: Get Vocal. Not as in singing (that the next one in this series, though), but rather on Email Lists (Banjo-L, for instance) and Social Networking sites (BanjoHangout.com, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc.). Just don't reveal too much real personal stuff! Number 11: Learn to Sing. Singing is a mainstay in traditional genres of all kinds and really helps you to add a more complete sound to your music. Singing puts the 'roots' in 'grassroots' music! Why Play the Banjo? If yo...

Check out places like FolkJam.org. Or jam notices at local music stores. Why Play the Banjo? Why Play the Banjo - PhillGibson.com

http://www.phillgibson.com/why_play_banjo.html

Why Play The Banjo? I can think of several reasons…. You get to meet some of the craz. er, nicest people around! OK, if crazy is what you're looking for then, yes you can find that, too! As with anything in life, communication is the key. Find a new friend or two and start making music. It's just plain fun. And what justification do we need for good clean fun? None, I hope. Dale Carnegie once said: People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing which leads us into reason number 3.
