For a start, I’ve been accepted onto a teacher training course, which begins in September. Once I was on, I only had a few hoops to jump through. I had to send in an occupational health form; convince them that the reference they had for me was the best they were going to get; and pass a maths and English skills test. But more of that another time.

I started in summer stock theatre as a carpenter and electrician and eventually opened my own production company in Philadelphia.
