WACO NINE Rebirth: May 2013
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Tuesday, May 28, 2013. I've been working on making exhaust manifolds for the OX-5. I don't need them for a long time but John Gaertner needs a set for the Jenny project. So they moved to the front of a long line of tasks. The whole story is on my OX-5 blog. I finally have the first shell half successfully formed. It came out very well. Check it out in my latest OX-5 posting. Rag Bag Aero Works. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). NC1184 in Pennsylvania 1927.

WACO NINE Rebirth: March 2014
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Thursday, March 27, 2014. Improved Winding Bar for 12 Gauge (0.081") Ferrules. After winding about 30 ferrules the hole in the bar had become loose enough to be annoying. Rather than just make a new hole I needed a way to adjust the hole to keep it snug on the loops. To start I center punched the holes for the screws. Once the tap hole was drilled the clearance for the screw in the cap was drilled with the same setup. Gee I actually used the tap handle for...

WACO NINE Rebirth: December 2014
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Sunday, December 21, 2014. Easy Bake Paint Oven. I haven't finished it at this point but I have enough done for it to start to make sense. The next posts should be shorter as I get more done. I had a sheet of 18 gauge galvanized steel which I was going to use to make a Gas Tank for the NINE. I found a used tank which will need a minor repair to be serviceable, so I don't need the steel. Our basic oven shell. Next was the top and bottom ends. The proces...

WACO NINE Rebirth: February 2014
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Monday, February 10, 2014. Wire Tinning Solder Pot. The parts are welded here and the heater is setting on the support. The white stuff is Heat Sink Compound from Aircraft Spruce. It helps transfer the heat from the heater to the pot neither of which is perfectly flat. The solder bar is melting. I bought 5 lb. bars of 50/50 solder through Amazon. Now I need to build a stand for the wire coil and work out a method to feed it through the pot.

WACO NINE Rebirth: April 2014
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Saturday, April 5, 2014. 8 Guage (0.125") Ferrules are Finished. In the end I took a 1" C-clamp and modified it to securely clamp on the coils. It's small enough it only needs the first couple turns to grip the wound loops. I sawed a Vee and then filed it to a nice fit. It an be installed off alignment when you put it on but, if you align it and tighten it then it stays there. All the ferrules for the wings and fuselage are done. Rag Bag Aero Works. So I u...

WACO NINE Rebirth: Fuselage Is Now In The Attic
http://nc3397.blogspot.com/2015/02/fuselage-is-now-in-tee-attic.html
Progress on the restoration of a 1926 WACO NINE. Monday, February 16, 2015. Fuselage Is Now In The Attic. I now have 2 airplanes in the attic and the Cessna 140. In the tent in the driveway. It had to come home eventually but I would have waited until the other 2 planes were back at the airport. It is a little crowded in the attic. It is nice not to drive 20 miles when I need to measure something on the fuselage. Rag Bag Aero Works. June 8, 2015 at 9:11 AM. August 5, 2015 at 9:49 AM. Rag Bag Aero Works.
