Because everyone needs something to do ashore…. Archive for the 'Reviews' Category. Catalina 309, I Think I Want One. So, at the Halifax boat show I came across a beautiful new Catalina 309. Although it was introduced in 2006, I have to wonder how it is doing as the “replacement” to the venerable Catalina 30. Sean McDermott steered for the second time and did an admirable job working through the other J29s over the first three legs, finally catching. Shortly before reaching the last windward mark.
