本系之宗旨在培育理論與實務兼具之物理治療師為目標，以職場就業為導向，故課程規劃包括 基本能力及基礎科學的養成、基礎醫學及臨床醫學的訓練、物理治療專業課程的加強，包括 骨科、神經科、小兒科、及心肺科等物理治療，並兼顧其他復健專業，如 輔具實作做及長期照護物理治療等知識的教授 除課堂教學外，本系亦強調臨床物理治療專業的教學，除學生於三年級將安排高雄地區之醫學中心及區域教學醫院，進行見習，同時參觀長期照護相關機構 而在第四學年讓學生至全國多家合作之醫學中心及區域教學醫院，進行實習，使其知識得以運用於臨床，以增加學生實際物理治療操作經驗、瞭解未來就業方向與物理治療師與其他復健團隊的相關與合作角色。
