Dylan & Travis: March 2013

Dylan lost his first tooth! Lots of excitement. Dyan lost his first (bottom) tooth on Friday, 22 February, in the airplane, just after touching down in SA. He has been looking forward to this moment for about a year and had been wobbling this tooth for about a week! Here's the proof, taken the day after we landed, in sunny, warm Joburg! Dylan & Travis: The Sint

So, it's nearly Christmas which means Sinterklaas is back in town. He arrived, along with all his Pieten friends and his horse, last Saturday. Despite the international attention concerning 'Zwarte' Piet, everything carried on as usual. It may have had racist beginnings, waaaay back when, but nowadays it's really just an old tradition filled with fun, excitement, songs, family, and of course, presents and sweets! I still have a sore neck! Hey Jan, what are you doing here? De familie van Kesteren.

Summer in Italy: Caorle. Our last 2 summer holidays turned out to be a little on the chilly side. This year we decided to take no chances and just keep driving until we reached somewhere where we were guaranteed of sun. We weren't disappointed! Our first stop off was a hotel, on the beach in a gorgeous small town called Caorle (East of Venice). Playing in the sea. Any guesses what song is playing on the beach now? Fun in the sand. Travis developed a small hamster-like smile this holiday! My le’Fabu...

Dylan & Travis: October 2012

Working at the docks. During the autumn holiday we went off to the Maritime Museum. The boys love playing upstairs at Professor Plons, a makeshift harbour on the roof of the building. They worked hard all morning. There was calling and organising. And lots of heavy lifting. And loading onto cargo ships. And unloading off cargo ships. And reloading. and then the final checking and off we go to our next port of call. Travis painted me a rainbow! The start of autumn. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

It's been a while. Plenty to talk about (holidays, birthdays, new year's . ) but there seems to be too little time to update the blog. so now a quick photo from the most recent holiday trip (Wintersport in Hochkrimml, Austria), at Petra and Rob's beautiful house there. A visit from Lau. The end of October meant the arrival of Lauren. I met her more than 17 years ago at Rhodes University, and the rest as they say, is history! She has been teaching English in Korea for the last 4 years and decided to take a rather long route, around half the world, back to SA. One of her (less exotic) stopovers was Holland. We did a fair bit of sightseeing (including a day trip to Antwerp and a visit to Delft for pancakes), lots of catching up, lots of kids time and lots of eating.

We're very proud of Dylan, he got his first swimming diploma last night! It was quite a noisy, busy affair as I think there were about 15 kids doing the exam and all the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters were watching! This first (A) exam tests that they can do all the basics in the swimming pool. Quite strange to people living in SA who have access to pools every day I guess! But here, Dylan has been going to swimming lessons once a week, during term times, for nearly 2 years to learn all this.
