Swimming to France; or world injustice exposed. Starting close to home. Aiming low. (sea level, to be precise). View my complete profile. Sunday, 23 November 2008. Starting close to home. Well, there hasn't been much training this week - it was rather rudely interrupted by an encounter with very dodgy chlorine on Tuesday night which put me out of commission with a chest infection of sorts. How am I going to link that to a cause? Well, that's easy. And it's all pretty easy to access. So I'm having a nice,...

Swimming to France; or world injustice exposed. Starting close to home. Aiming low. (sea level, to be precise). View my complete profile. Thursday, 20 November 2008. Aiming low. (sea level, to be precise). I have a cunning plan: next year, some time between 28th July and 6th August (weather permitting) I'm going to swim the Channel. It'll be tough, physically and mentally, and in a strange masochistic way I'm looking forward to it and enjoying the training. Thanks for reading - please come back.

love and some verses: September 2008

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 19 September 2008. Sorry for my silence. (Isn't that a phrase I utter often? I've been in four US states in the last week. The trip was designed as a glorious combination of business and pleasure, but I have to admit that when you are in good company and walking paths that feel familiar, everything is pleasing. I've really missed the good ol' US of A. Posted by Natalie Gabriela. Links to this post. Tuesday, 9 September 2008. Windermere, emphasis on the wind. Posted by Natalie Gabriela. This eveni...

love and some verses: exhale

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008/12/exhale.html

Friday, 19 December 2008. Tried to post this last night but I had technical problems. Don't I always! This has been a long year. Correction: these have been a long couple of years. Ok, these have been a long several. Years Still, 2008 exhausted me. Lately, I was feeling as though things might not get better anytime soon, which, given my eternal optimism, was a fairly awful sensation to experience. Then at last, today, the return of hope. Here's looking forward to 2009 and a new world of possibilities.

Thursday, 30 October 2008. The weather on this (nearly) All Hallows Eve is perfect for a fire and a glass of wine and secrets whispered in a loved one's ear. So on this cold winter's night, I'm thinking of you and missing you. Posted by Natalie Gabriela. Links to this post. Wednesday, 29 October 2008. http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008/12/official-notice-january-2009.html

Tuesday, 16 December 2008. Official notice: january 2009. I have bought my tickets to the States, booked a car, and accepted the hospitality of my dear friend, Liz, her lovely wife, Lauren, and their rather adorable cats. I'll be teaching a course called New Migrants, New Migrations. In the Latin American Studies department at Mount Holyoke during J-term. What does all this mean? It means that I will be in the Pioneer Valley from January 4-24. Ok, let me clarify, I'll be making a Brooklyn.

love and some verses: Ummm, hello 2009?

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2009/07/ummm-hello-2009.html

Thursday, 30 July 2009. Ummm, hello 2009? So, I haven't posted anything in 2009. So much for daily blogging. I would like to promise that I will be posting every day from this point forward, but realistically I know that probably won't be happening in the immediate. Future. (Though it remains a steadfast goal.) There are good reasons for all this though: travels and adventures and that oh so pesky dissertation I am trying to submit by the end of the year. Good reasons indeed. Posted by Natalie Gabriela.

love and some verses: congratulations clarabelle! (sorry had to)

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008/12/congratulations-clarabelle-sorry-had-to.html

Wednesday, 17 December 2008. One of the most extraordinary experiences of this past year has been watching my younger sister grow into this amazingly articulate, determined, wise, and compassionate woman. Life has not always been particularly fair to her and our respective experiences and opportunities have been very different. Yet, despite some rather unfortunate obstacles, she's proven herself to be not only resilient but also rather wonderful. Posted by Natalie Gabriela. Official notice: january 2009.

love and some verses: a christmas wish

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008/12/christmas-wish.html

Thursday, 25 December 2008. Anyway, as I am alone with Sarah's cats and have reached my UK immigration law reading saturation point, I have decided to put on a Chanel 4 special on the nativity. I've just finished watching a segment about the virgin birth debating whether Mary was in fact a virgin or if she was rape victim. There is historical evidence suggesting the latter. What, she asks, is more miraculous than hope in a moment of despair, of profound healing found in tragedy? Who do I love?

love and some verses: faffing about

http://nataliegabriela.blogspot.com/2008/12/faffing-about.html

Sunday, 14 December 2008. I should be finishing the final version of the syllabus for the Mount Holyoke course I am teaching in January. I should be writing my lectures for said course. Or writing a chapter of my dissertation. In fact, there are many things I should. Be doing on this cold winter's night. It's a long, long list, my friends. What you will not. Now it hasn't been all irresponsible fun and games. I've also managed some Christmas knitting and two very important transatlatic phone calls&#4...
