Stupid Questions are Good for You. Jun 23, 2013 by olsner. The point of this post is that you shouldn't be afraid about asking stupid questions, and that you should never punish anyone for asking them. Because so-called stupid questions teach something to the ones that would answer it. This is related to another unwritten blog post about how noobs are good for you. Also somewhat related to the long list of reasons to reject questions as stupid. Seem to have similar opinions. The wiki's search function is...

Archive for February, 2008. Feb 05, 2008 by olsner. An unfortunate thing with this markdown framework I've been using is that it requires me to indent code blocks by four spaces (or a tab). Editing such text in a web browser really sucks, so I've been thinking about how to hack in literate haskell support into markdown. Well, turns out, it wasn't that hard after all. After some real simple modification to the markdown geshi patch. Referenced in my previous blog post. I now have literate haskell support!

XAB; An excursion in mod rewrite. WordPress, take 1. This was way easier than blosxom, which after almost a whole day's customization still looks like this. And that's only after stealing dons. Stylesheet and template. Plenty of stuff that doesn't really work without hacking it in, or finding a plugin, or the right template (if it's still around - the main blosxom page has plenty of broken links, esp. when it comes to plugins and "flavours"). Changes as recommended by conal. And here's some haskell code!

Archive for May, 2008. Real Modules for C. May 27, 2008 by olsner. C sucks. C needs a proper module system, where you can actually separate modules from each other rather than tangle them together in circular header include trees. This is it! I'm not entirely sure about this, but maybe I'll call it M as in "C with Modules". In any case, this will become a C dialect. Importing a module imports a well-defined set of names into the local scope. With a proper module system, declarations from different module...

http://www.git.olsner.se/2008/01/27/bfthue-in-mod_rewrite

XAB; Thue in Haskell. An excursion in mod rewrite. BF Thue in mod rewrite. Based on the mod rewrite experiment from the other week. I hacked up a small Thue. To mod rewrite compiler in sed. For testing, I have used the brainfuck interpreter in Thue. The Thue interpreter needs to keep track of a few bits of state - all of this has to be encoded in some reliable way in the URL we're continually rewriting:. Have we added the interpreter? For BF Thue, this is ' ' which is really something that has leaked fro...

August 12, 2015. Certain on-line tools at work will greet me with a friendly “Welcome, Bryan” when I log in. This has bothered me for a while, but updating my name in the system would involve talking to our IT department. I do not like talking to Corporate IT. So I’ve put off talking to corporate IT for a while, but being called “Bryan” against my will finally started bothering me. I took a deep breath and filed a support ticket:. Apparently we have two different IT departments? Sorry, but this appears t...
