TV minus 50: September 2014
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Monday, 29 September 2014. Tuesday 29 September 1964. Tonight's show begins (even before the show's title and whirring intro music) with Leon Dorsey telling us exactly what's wrong with him: he's got Meniere's disease. His obstinacy in discussing the matter leads to a classic "explaining to the audience something the character already knows" ruse as Alec Grant barks: "I see I shall have to talk to you like a first year medical student! Guy asks Rex Lane-Russell to go for a d...

TV minus 50: May 2015
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Tuesday, 12 May 2015. Hello everyone. Well, it's been the kind of week in 2015 that makes me particularly happy to disappear into the past, so let's do it. There's no Juke Box Jury. This week due to a special programme on BBC 1 commemorating the 20th anniversary of VE Day. Funnily enough it's produced by Glyn Jones, who's also the writer of the current Doctor Who. Adventure, the latest instalment of which follows directly after at the later than usual time of 6 pm. Outside t...

TV minus 50: August 2014
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Sunday, 31 August 2014. Monday 31 August 1964. It's the final Choice of Coward. And in his intro this week Noel informs us that tonight's play was the result of 11 years of trying to come up with the ideal vehicle for him to star alongside the legendary theatrical couple Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Amongst his rejected ideas was a play set entirely in a giant bed, including stage directions "Which, if followed faithfully, would have landed all three of us in gaol.". Satur...

TV minus 50: March 2014
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Thursday, 27 March 2014. Friday 24 January 1964. With Anthony Brand and his machinations absent this week - he's at a function in Uganda - It's Dark Outside. Feels more like a standard crime series this week. That may be because it utilises one of the most standard of all crime series tropes: the figure from the past stalking the detective, bent on revenge. As regular followers might expect, It's Dark Outside. It's safe to say that if she did she would not have been amused.

TV minus 50: April 2014
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Monday, 21 April 2014. Friday 7 February 1964. Tonight's It's Dark Outside. Tackles what, 1964, would have been widely known as Rachmanism (after the infamously unscrupulous property developer - and former lover of Mandy Rice-Davies - Peter Rachman): the process of filling properties up with ethnic minority tenants barred from most other accommodation, charging them scandalously exorbitant rents and meeting any dissent, or failure to pay, with extreme violence. Aimee Delamai...

TV minus 50: February 2014
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Tuesday, 25 February 2014. Saturday 4 January 1964. When, last week, we left plucky yet easily terrified teenager Susan Foreman gathering her courage to leave the safety of the TARDIS to venture once more through the petrified jungle of Skaro and bring her stricken companions life-saving anti-radiation drugs (or was it gloves? Susan's instantly smitten: "You're perfect! Is he trying to say he thinks the Daleks might be really pretty when you get their lids off? Back out in t...

http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Thursday, 29 May 2014. As I haven't found anything better to do with my time, I'm pleased to reveal that TV Minus 50. Will be back in action on Tuesday 8 July. And I'll be returning to the original idea of the blog by posting about things that were actually broadcast on that date 50 years ago. Although, in 1964, the 8th of July was a Wednesday. It was a leap year, which means everything's going to be thrown out of synch just a little bit. And the broadcast of Seven Up. PS I ...

TV minus 50: April 2015
http://tvminus50.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
This week's TV, 50 years ago. Friday, 24 April 2015. It's good to be back (Oh. Perhaps I could have phrased that better). Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed yourselves during my absence - I've been taking some time to enjoy the sunshine and do some things away from my computer screen. But frankly, I've had enough of 2015 now: the present's a nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there. So back to 1965 it is. Tonight's Juke Box Jury. Doctor, we've got our clothes on! Well I should hope so, dear boy.
