Big Lake Wildlife Refuge - City of Manila Arkansas Mississippi County
Construction has begun on a new headquarters facility. The project is being funded through the Amercian Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The new building will house offices, a visitor center, a meeting room and an education classroom. Canada geese also use the refuge during the fall and winter and can be observed in Baker Island field at the south end of the refuge. Big Lake has bald eagles and osprey nesting on the refuge. Osprey have nested successfully since 1984 and a pair of bald eagles since 1993.
