1863 A small committee appointed by Indiana Yearly Meeting is sent to Helena, Arkansas, to care for black refugee children and women coming within Union lines for protection. Thirty acres of land is purchased by the 56th regiment of the US colored Infantry and give to Indiana Yearly Meeting for a school. Bluff Point Friends Church was set up under Portland Monthly Meeting in 1912. It became a monthly meeting in 1922. The building was purchased for $525 and was at two different locations before being moved to the village of Bluff Point, just to the east of US 27, in 1912. Classrooms were added in 1967.
