Phil runs London: November 2009

http://philrunslondon.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Because 10k's are for wusses. I'm not gonna lie - running a marathon is not a pleasant experience. I've only made it round one, and it was horrible. But, the ever-soothing passage of time helps erase these painful memories and allows you to convince yourself that it wasn't actually that bad, so why not give it another go? That is why I tell people that whilst pretty much anyone can do a marathon with proper preparation, they. Time is measured on a 0-20 scale, with 0 being the time the incident happened&#...

Phil runs London: July 2009

http://philrunslondon.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Because 10k's are for wusses. Last Tuesday marked a significant step on my way to next years London Marathon - the physio said I could start running again! It's been more than three months since my last run (a now incomprehensible 20-miler. If I remember rightly.) and I'm now allowed to get going again after weeks of physio. Wonderfully named 'knee classes', and seemingly endless stretching. A month ago, in an effort to stop the complete loss of any fitness I'd built up in training, I got a bike. So, I n...

Because 10k's are for wusses. Inevitable pasta posting – Phil style! Inevitable pasta posting – Phil style! I like to think that there comes a time in every e-marathon blogger's life when they have to write a post about pasta. I don't know why, but there's a strange feeling of inevitability in this. It might be some strange force of nature, like the call of the warm southern shores to flocks of migrating birds. It started off slowly, subtly even - biding it's time. You're trapped, and your repertoire of ...

Phil runs London: August 2009

http://philrunslondon.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Because 10k's are for wusses. Earlier this year, ITB syndrome - one of the most common injuries for marathon runners - meant I had to pull out. Of the London Marathon. Only 12 days before the race. After hundreds of miles of training, over several months, this was, to put it mildly, a bit of a disappointment. Thankfully, I was able to get physio on the NHS and was enlisted onto special 'knee classes' at my local hospital, so am now slowly - ever so slowly - on the way back. How cool is that? The outside ...

Phil runs London: September 2009

http://philrunslondon.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Because 10k's are for wusses. Keeping the legs turning over. Since I lost my bit of finger I've only managed a couple of short runs. Short even for me and my ridiculously-cautious-but-knee-protecting schedule. They've only been a mile at a time as I'm supposed to be resting properly and not 'overdoing it' - whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. It's pretty ridiculously straightforward on the run (my problem is running then as slow as I should! But I've noticed something weird afterwards. Thankfully ...

madasaboxoffrogs: Day 99 - Sunday 19th September: Great South Oxfordshire Run

http://aboxoffrogs.blogspot.com/2010/09/day-99-sunday-19th-september-great.html

Sunday, 19 September 2010. Day 99 - Sunday 19th September: Great South Oxfordshire Run. Run: 13.21 miles. Time: 1 hour 56 minutes 45 seconds. Today's schedule called for an easy (or was it comfortable? As per usual, however, my legs have other ideas, and I whizz through the next mile in 8m40s. Surely this is too fast? What will the weather be like in the far North of Scotland in October? I guess I'll find out in a fortnight. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Running 13.1 miles in memory of Carl. I star...

Tuesday, 21 September 2010. Day 101 - Tuesday 21st September: Orangey day. Half an hour later, and she washed my hair again to reveal. a light orangey colour. Not quite the vibrant lifeboat shade I was hoping for, but still enough to make me stand out a bit to aid my fundraising along for the next week. Then next Wednesday I'm back there again to have the colour topped up, and next time she's going to get a darker, more crazy colour! Inside and out body therapy. Ouch, ouch ouch! http://aboxoffrogs.blogspot.com/2010/09/day-107-monday-27th-september-milton.html

Monday, 27 September 2010. Day 107 - Monday 27th September: Milton Half Hour. Run: 3.33 miles. Time: 29 minutes 18 seconds. A third run day in a row. All these rest days towards the end of the marathon training feel very odd, having got into the habit of running so much. I guess it was all new to me when I did it for London, but this time round it's a struggle to not be running at least every other day. Didn't feel up to it. Maybe I'll go tomorrow instead. Sunday, 26 September 2010. Day 106 - Sunday 26th September: Charney 9. Run: 9.02 miles. Time: 1 hour 18 minutes 29 seconds. I forgot to say that yesterday's couple of miles meant that I've notched up 1900 miles since I began running almost three years ago. That milestone comes next weekend. As I leave Charney, I reach the halfway point in under 40 minutes. Perhaps I should be taking it a little easier today? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Running 13.1 miles in memory of Carl. Tuesday, 28 September 2010. Day 108 - Tuesday 28th September: Swim. I delayed my Monday swim because of yesterday's unpleasantness at the dentist, and chose to do a simple 40 lengths this evening. Although it wasn't long before I wanted to up this to 50! The other swimmer eases past me as she does her fast length, but is waiting at the end getting some more tips from her coach. I touch the end, and kick off again back for my seventh. Round about length 35 I lose count. Was that 36? Did I miss out 34?

Local Government, Digital. Sunday, 16 August 2015. Democracy is never out of style. If you've been following the debate around government and digital for a while you'll know like most areas of discussion, it follows patterns and fashions. Debate can be cyclical. The question "Do we need a Local Government Digital Service (LocalGDS)" had been discussed for over four years and was a factor in the formation of LocalGov Digital. Over the years and you'll see there's a lot of repetition. Here's the thing thou...

Phil Runs For Fun! Friday, 27 September 2013. Milton Half Marathon 2013. We gathered at the meetup in the Go Station parking lot. The beautiful thing about a small race is that it's very easy to find your friends. The gathering included myself Nicole, Alan, Shawna, Robin, and Peter. Peter was not running but came to cheer us on.awesome! Sandy and Graham wished me luck and went to get some prime real estate at the corner of the parking lot near the Hakim Optical. Phil runs London

Because 10k's are for wusses. Since I cocked up last year's attempt to run the marathon by buggering up my leg, I was determined it wouldn't happen again. A summer of physio, and a new cycling regime to keep the fitness up without the pressure on my ridiculously feeble knees. Fitness-wise, it's going great – 22 mile round trip every work day has got me into fairly reasonable condition. Unfortunately it's also introduced me to a previously unforeseen problem – carb depletion. So when I go for a run in the...
