Our theory group explores the fundamental properties and device implications of nanoscale matter. We tackle these problems using a wide variety of theoretical techniques, ranging from ab initio approaches to low-energy effective models, and from nonequilibrium Green's functions to drift-diffusion equations. Our group specializes in experimental space plasma physics: we build instruments, fly them in space, and work with the data to understand the physics of the space around the Earth. Many of our instruments are launched on rockets, so - you guessed it - we're rocket scientists! One of our main interests is the auroral borealis. In fact, in February, 2003, we launched the HIBAR.
