Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: July 2011
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 13, 2011. The cargo trike is now in its eighth year of operation. One thing I had to decide upon over the winter was the battery pack for its electric assist. As the most recent one had started to die late last year and I barely squeaked through November with it (though through proper charging and management I did get two years out of that pack, which was darn good). So this is what I ordered: http:/ www.pingbattery.com/servlet/the-12/48V-15AH-V2.5-LiFePO4/Detail. Now that part is fabulou...

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: Wheel Art
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2012/07/wheel-art.html
Tuesday, July 03, 2012. Hey, where did I go? Sucked into Facebook land with my photos, mostly. And otherwise just busy. But time to get back to the blog! I've always liked bicycle related art. A few months ago my sweetie and I noticed an upside down fork with front wheel in someone's yard, spinning in the wind due to some tape or plastic put between the spokes. I took that idea and ran (cycled? As usual, the re-Cycles. Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A live jazz blog.

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: October 2012

Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Homebuilt no-weld recumbent trike. A fellow dropped by the re-Cycles shop with an interesting machine. I've seen quite a few bent trikes in my time, but this is the first that was entirely bolted / clamped together AND it has full suspension! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My (rather ancient) website. Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: July 2012
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 23, 2012. As compensation for the hassle of rebuilding it, my landlord would pay for the finishing materials (covering boards and roof) so that it would match his deck and the adjacent dumpster enclosure. During demolition I was very glad I had constructed the old trikeport with screws instead of nails, as this meant for an easy take-apart and allowed me to re-use most of the wood and even most of the screws! This new one is higher mainly to let rain water drain over the rear fence, as havin...

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: Another (sort-of) DIY trailer
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2012/08/another-sort-of-diy-trailer.html
Monday, August 27, 2012. Another (sort-of) DIY trailer. Or the DIY trailer posts. I have to thank you for your previous posts and instructions on how to build a DIY bike trailer. Theyve been invaluable, since the commercial trailers out there arent big enough for my application. I need to carry 4 (SUP) Stand Up Paddleboards on a trailer. Theyre about 11 or 12 feet long and 32 wide and weigh about 30 lbs each. Most of the available carriers are under 30 wide. I welcome your input and appreciate your posts.

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: More trailer adventures
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2008/12/more-trailer-adventures.html
Sunday, December 28, 2008. I had to build a new cargo box for the small trailer. This, by the way, is a modified Chariot kids trailer, which replaced my dead homebuilt one. It was donated to re-Cycles. I wanted the new box to be long enough for the snyth, and strong enough to hold the amplifier, which is a fair bit heavier that the one I used last year. For my old recumbent bike. Here's the trailer, with box removed (in foreground) and plywood bottom in for test-fitting. Test-fitting of the snyth:. Loade...

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: April 2011
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. I'm a bit behind on posting, mainly because my year-old camera got cranky and is in for warranty repair. Among other things, the cargo trike got a new hi-tech lithium battery pack, and I'll post about that as soon as I can take photos. In the mean time, I have a nice photo spread of the the annual Spring waters here in Ottawa, featuring shots of both Rideau and Hogs Back Falls. For some background on the Rideau waterway and the falls, I recommend this site. The falls in full roar.

Drumbent - Tales of (Mostly) Music and Motion: Xtracycle!
http://drumbent.blogspot.com/2013/01/xtracycle.html
Wednesday, January 02, 2013. I've got a few things to blog about, and let's start with my latest bike project. I recently took possession of an Xtracycle kit. My friend RGB. Has been using one as a winter bike and ended up preferring it, citing not only its increased load-carrying but also better handling and stability in wintry conditions (and here in Ottawa we have real winters! The basic frame looks like this. And then you can add to it, like this:. I decided to add the kit to the blue winter bike.

Baskets & Crates. Urban Cycling in Canada. City and urban cycling is growing in Canada. Everything I’ve read and seen in the bike lane points to this. I wanted to get some numbers so I went to Statistics Canada. To look at their cycling data from the last census in 2011. I also found this great report, Cycle Cities by the Pembina Institute. In 2015. While the numbers in these studies vary the trends are clear. If you want to open a bike shop the city with the most daily bicycle trips, Montreal, is also t...
