T&T’s Turtles. How You Can Help. Adopt a Turtle or Buy a T-shirt. As soon as a turtle has been sighted, slowly retreat to a distance of 20m (60ft) away from her and make yourself comfortable. The entire nesting process can take up to 2 hours. When the turtle has stopped digging, the SOS Turtle Patrol, hotel security or a knowledgeable guide will determine if the laying process has begun by approaching the turtle cautiously from behind (see also Flashlights). BE SURE TO STAY BEHIND THE TURTLE AT ALL TIMES!

Once a male leatherback sea turtle struggles from its egg and makes its way to the sea as a 4-inch (10 cm) hatchling, it may never again return to land during its 80-year lifetime. Although they are air-breathing animals born on land, Leatherbacks, like all sea turtles, spend their lives in the ocean. Females return to land only to lay their eggs.
