Cultural Studies Research in Hispanic Studies » Barriers – A walk through a divided city
Julie Riggs and I (Alex Douglas) put together this photographic/poetic essay as our project for the forum. It ties a few Hispanic Studies issues into Urban Planning and reads the city. We’ve made it into a powerpoint for simplicity. It ought to be presented along with a commentary, but that has yet to be written; for now, use your imagination! Cultural Studies Research in Hispanic Studies » Life on the Hyphen goes to the Border!
Eight students co-enrolled in either Hispanic Studies 361: Life on the Hyphen or Sociology 440: Latino/a Migration and Latino/a Studies traveled to the U.S./Mexico Border during Spring Break, designed and executed interdisciplinary research projects, and collaborated with a local non-governmental organization that acted as institutional host. Upon their return, they presented their findings in a public forum in Williamsburg. You can see a short documentary. Internship with National Security Archive.
