Birmingham – LEARN TO PLAY AGAIN | Dave Harte
http://daveharte.com/birmingham/birmingham-learn-to-play-again
May 1, 2015. Birmingham – LEARN TO PLAY AGAIN. This is by way of a diversion from the meat of my PhD but in writing up my methodology I’ve become distracted by various bibliographic records of the alternative press in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. The era is well documented by guides of the time and there exists many reels of microfiche (in the British Library and elsewhere) containing copies of the publications. Make your own freedom if it is no longer given as a simple right. If this is a mad rant...

Category Archives: BVH tour 2008. June 7, 2008. 10 things I learnt on Tour. Here are ten things I learnt during this week’s Tour of Bournville:. Using the same number every night is better in theory than in practice although it does allow for some interesting improvisation. I look ridiculous when I’m running. In every single shot I’ve got my thumbs up. What is with that? Next time you see me please break both my thumbs. Doing all five races allows you to eat crap all day. One of the most frequent thi...

July 29, 2014. Payments from local councils to local press. At the recent Revival of Local Journalism. Conference the Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council, Ged Fitzgerald, reminded the audience of local journalists. That he’s obliged to use local newspapers to publish statutory notices for planning, road closures and “all sorts of technical type stuff.”. Are two hyperlocals that have put in Freedom of Information requests and Talk About Local have voiced their concerns. Anyway, I was wondering how m...

September 29, 2014. Amongst the Kate Bush superfans an ethnographic reflection. During the interval of the Kate Bush concert I’ve just been to I found myself on my hands and knees on the floor, picking up the scraps of confetti (pictured) which shortly before had been propelled over the audience as part of the climax of the first half of the concert. What kind of madness was this? To some extent I felt a kind of critical distance to this group. I could feel myself observing them. I felt like an e...As th...

August 12, 2011. Hyperlocal till I die. In the 20 months I’ve been editor and proprietor of bournvillevillage.com. I’ve often been on the verge of giving it up. I tend to update it no more than a couple of times a week but sometimes I just get fed up with it. What usually makes me carry on is the knowledge that looking for someone else to do it would take as much energy as just doing it myself. 1 You are not a business model. 2 You are a Creative Citizen. 3 Making is Connecting. 5 Have some children.
