The Sustainability Gap

Tuesday, October 30, 2007. When the alarm went off at 6:00 AM, Ted and I could barely roll out of bed. We have been on local time for a while now, waking up at 9:00 to leisurely stroll outside for some hutong breakfast and morning tea. While the early wake-up call wasn't the funnest thing to do on my 24th birthday, it was well worth it, as we were going to see the Great Wall. This was truly a birthday experience I will never forget. Links to this post. Sunday, October 28, 2007. In short, pests. This conf...

The Sustainability Gap: A "relaxing" day in the garden

http://www.sustainabilitygap.blogspot.com/2007/10/relaxing-day-in-garden.html

Thursday, October 18, 2007. A "relaxing" day in the garden. So Ted and I have been shopping our little hearts out in Shanghai, hence the lack of pictures and blog posts. We've been waking up fairly early, grabbing some Jiang Bing for breakfast (the Shanghai version has less onion and cilantro, but is crispier and just as yummy), and have been hitting the subway to whatever shopping mecca calls our name that particular day. The "Oh my God, why did we ever decide to do this, and today of all days?

http://www.sustainabilitygap.blogspot.com/2007/10/i-know-people-use-phrase-concrete.html

Tuesday, October 2, 2007. I know people use the phrase "concrete jungle", but come on . You want to know what the saddest thing in Beijing is? Let me show you:. That's right, folks. Right in the midst of boundless pride associated with national week, Ted and I witnessed one sad excuse of a zoo today at the Beijing Zoo. While we had heard that the place was ghetto fabulous and the admission was only 20 yuan. T tell the difference if it is real or painted on! Even as sad as those images are, the worst thin...

The Sustainability Gap: Update: we can finally see our blogs!

http://www.sustainabilitygap.blogspot.com/2007/10/update-we-can-finally-see-our-blogs.html

Monday, October 1, 2007. Update: we can finally see our blogs! But we do love to read your comments, either in China or when we get home, so please drop us a line! We're loving your (and Ted's) blog. It's become the highlight of our rain-soaked days. You two should be travel writers. It's great that you're mingling with the locals and really experiencing Beijing. October 1, 2007 at 9:05 AM. http://www.sustainabilitygap.blogspot.com/2007/10/just-so-you-know.html

Tuesday, October 9, 2007. Just so you know . Ted and I just wanted everyone to know that we will be out of touch for at least a day, as we are taking the night train to Qingdao in a few hours. We will be staying there for a few days (a few blocks away from the beach), where we will be sipping on Tsingtao straight from the source. So you can get an idea of the fantastic work and advocacy they have been doing in the Beijing community. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Doin it like the locals do.

The Sustainability Gap: "Lazy" Sunday

http://www.sustainabilitygap.blogspot.com/2007/10/lazy-sunday.html

Sunday, October 7, 2007. So when we had no other plans for our lazy Sunday, we decided to go check out this brand spankin' new museum, which was just completed last year. While the in-house collection was not that extensive, we really enjoyed the few pieces that were on display in the special Greek exhibit in the main hall. Since we only have a couple of days left in Beijing before we head to Qingdao and Shanghai, I thought I would leave you with a shot of the Drum Tower across Houhai at night:.

I live in Yemen. It's rad. Let me tell you all about it. Not an admissions essay. So I’ve registered to take the GRE, and I’ve been studying for them, which is. soporific, and. exegent? And I hate it; I’ve forgotten how to do long division (Einstein complex? At my university most people were overly idealistic bleeding hearts, and I really prided myself on my common-sense agrarian background, on having being rooted in reality and not some utopian dreamscape. One of the things university espoused was t...

I live in Yemen. It's rad. Let me tell you all about it. Do i speak how i write? Well, I've learned a lot about Yemen, met a lot of people, and as of this week have finished my teaching my first session. This last part was my greatest apprehension and I feel warrants some thoughts since I'm realistic about the future and pretty much I "gotta go to work, gotta go to work, gotta have a job." *Wince. This is my halfway mark. I've set up a flickr album which you can check out here. No, I don't believe in God.

I live in Yemen. It's rad. Let me tell you all about it. May be better than quail. PS: OMGZ MAIL IS AWESOME! Yemen still has no cases of swine flu, or H1N1. Similar to in Israel, under sharia, referring to pigs is Haram. Unlike Israel though, we're not stupidly calling it the Mexican flu. Is all around fantastic and you should check it out. The Flying Elephant Express: No, Eating A Spider Didn't Kill Us

The Flying Elephant Express. Now Under New Mismanagement. Thursday, April 16, 2009. No, Eating A Spider Didn't Kill Us. But it felt like it might for a few hours. We pickied up this hairy bad boy at a roadside market/restaurant between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Our driver Som (a highlight of the trip in his own right) had been regaling us with stories of the foods (and lack thereof) of his childhood. He claimed spider was not only delicious, but medicinal as well. How so? Have a good trip back. Learning ...
