Curriculum for the 21st Century: February 2015
http://revolutionarylearningdesign.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Curriculum for the 21st Century. Monday, February 2, 2015. Pedagogy, andragogy, call it what you want, we need to know it. Not because they don't care or they don't want to, but because they simply don't have time. So, how do people like myself support these graduate TAs who often make up a considerable portion of our teaching force? I have implemented a year-long, voluntary certificate program for TAs that starts with "immediate teaching needs" such as where do I turn in grades? I have presented worksho...

Curriculum for the 21st Century: Do away with discussion rubrics?
http://revolutionarylearningdesign.blogspot.com/2014/11/do-away-with-discussion-rubrics.html
Curriculum for the 21st Century. Thursday, November 13, 2014. Do away with discussion rubrics? Over the years I have attempted to frame the discussion requirements in a number of ways. I've created rubrics, required citations, made administrative posts about the requirements, given formative feedback and done everything short of standing on my head to get students to post something other than "I agree.". The format of the NC naturally lends itself to a more flowing discussion. The more they post, the mor...

Curriculum for the 21st Century: What can we learn from science museums about active learning in the classroom?
http://revolutionarylearningdesign.blogspot.com/2014/11/what-can-we-learn-from-science-museums.html
Curriculum for the 21st Century. Wednesday, November 12, 2014. What can we learn from science museums about active learning in the classroom? I was recently at the AECT 2014 conference in Jacksonville, Florida. One of our options for sessions was to take a (paid) study tour of the Museum of Science and History, fondly known as the MOSH. A perk of our private tour was an hour-long visit with one of the education specialists, we'll call him "Dan.". Asking Socratic questions (High order thinking skills).

Curriculum for the 21st Century: How do we know if our students "know" or "understand"?
http://revolutionarylearningdesign.blogspot.com/2013/05/how-do-we-know-if-our-students-know-or.html
Curriculum for the 21st Century. Thursday, May 30, 2013. How do we know if our students "know" or "understand"? Creating a valuable learning experience for students means starting with worthwhile course goals and objectives. What do you really want your students to learn about a topic? Are those goals and objectives realistic or even meaningful? Once you have created those objectives and goals (hopefully using Bloom's Taxonomy. Or Bloom's Digital Taxonomy. What their students know? I am fascinated by tec...

Curriculum for the 21st Century: PBL for Freshman?
http://revolutionarylearningdesign.blogspot.com/2013/10/pbl-for-freshman.html
Curriculum for the 21st Century. Tuesday, October 29, 2013. After taking a mid-semester temperature of our campus, it is clear that effective PBL for freshman must include the following components:. A contextual, real-world, overarching problem that gives the entire course content relevance. A series of scaffolding activities, that may or may not be PBL driven, that are micro-components of the overall course problem. The students are in-effect, solving the problem step-by-step. I am currently teaching Fr...
