The purpose of it, is to show how to do a FULL install on an empty HDD,. It does not attempt to explain how to dual boot puppy with another already installed OS. It also assumes that your PC is able to boot from a CD,. And that you are installing to a normal internal hard drive. Please note that the partition sizes i used are for example only,. My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Monday, October 26, 2009. Calling a Perl Script from a web page using JavaScript. Ever wanted to include some dynamic data on your web page, but didn't want to (or restrictions didn't allow you to) code the entire page server-side? I was too until I developed a working example of how it works. First, the Perl code; I'll call it "cow quote.pl":. As you can see, all.

My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Zenwalk - Gnome Edition. I am a fan of lightweight Linux distributions, mostly because my motley crew of computers mostly consists of older, usually outdated machines that just aren't up to the task of running full blown (and bloated distros) like Ubuntu or Fedora. It seems like lots of folks rave about Zenwalk. After selecting the swap pa...

My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Sunday, October 11, 2009. Cowsay - A Configurable Speaking/Thinking Cow. Cowsay is a silly little command line text filter that displays a cow saying (or thinking) whatever text you feed it. For example, each time I log into my server via ssh I am greeted by a friendly cow who gives me a random quote. Some of the options available:. Option initiates Borg mode;. Making ...

Linux Revolution: Random things

Sunday, September 07, 2008. It's been a while since my last update, but I'd like to start practicing writing again, so I'd better start blogging more often. Since 2006, I've been involved with a growing open source project and that's been eating up most of my free time. In the meantime, I'm still a die-hard Linux fan, although I haven't kept up with the latest and greatest stuff as much. I've also recently started experimenting with (drumroll) Windows Vista. Posted at 3:29 PM. The editor(s) there make a ...

Saturday, September 15, 2007. New iPod Firmware Screws Linux Users. Yesterday after rumors that new iPods require a cryptographic checksum. On the song database we confirmed that Banshee can no longer store songs on the new iPods. The new firmware will now refuse to play any songs that you legally own unless you use Apple's iTunes (which is only supported for Windows and MacOS). In the meantime, I'll be sticking to my iRiver. U10 ( Cowon MP3 players. Are supposed to be pretty Linux friendly as well.).

Linux Revolution: September 2008

Sunday, September 07, 2008. Has Linux lost the ISV battle? For as long as anyone can remember, one of the big problems with Linux has been the lack of commercial applications. Independent software vendors (ISVs) are generally sticking to Windows or OS X, resulting in very little commercial software being available for Linux. Free software ideologies aside, there are many commercial applications that Linux would benefit from being able to run. How exactly does one do all of this? Will install on 2000, XP,...
