Whatcom Weavers Guild: October 2009

http://whatcomweavers.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 17, 2009. Fibers and Beyond-Hugely Successful Show. Another gorgeous show ,well and truly finished. Sixty fiber artists filled the hall with amazing works - hand dyed, hand spun, hand knitted, hand woven, hand felted warm and woolly creativity. This once a year show and sale was very well attended, very nearly sold out in spite of the two day downpour. Just another Puget Sounder does not discourage the best of shoppers. Scarves, shawls, wraps,. Beautiful felted Tea cosies by Donna-.

Whatcom Weavers Guild: An open letter ~

http://whatcomweavers.blogspot.com/2010/01/open-letter.html

Friday, January 15, 2010. I never intended to post anything to the group like this, but I really need to say something to the whole Whatcom Weavers Guild. That’s how dear Mary Ellen became an important part of Wednesday evening. . I, or should I say WE. Are indebted to her for sharing such wonderful artifacts.  As the trusted guardian, she has preserved a treasure trove of history from such a successful weaving business located right here in Whatcom County.  Thank you Mary Ellen. It was way cool!

Mabel's Wish: 45 ~ what an odd number?

http://mabelswish.blogspot.com/2010/05/45-what-odd-number.html

Friday, May 14, 2010. 45 what an odd number? How the hell did that happen? 160; How can one feel smarter, slower, wittier, mellower, all at once? I think the answer is 45. My life is summed up in the birthday card doodle from my husband:. I’m weaving tapestry (or learning);. The cat is sleeping in his “cat-bowl” bed;. My dad is sitting in the hospital next to my mom laying in bed (last weekend);. And Steve is coming home after his swing shift, calling out, “I’m home.”. Cat in cat bowl: Fine. By hand tatt...

Mabel's Wish: December 2009

http://mabelswish.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 29, 2009. Getting excited for the next guild meeting! 160; Al Currier will have a great presentation on the Barber Handweaving business that was on the Lummi Reservation. . Over the weekend I stumbled upon this Barber outfit at a local antique shop (see below).  Do you have any Barber items? Caught a glimpse of this “get up” and knew instantly that it was a Barber. . Shot a picture of the Barber’s tag and the shop’s sales tag ($80! A close up of the pattern. Sunday, December 13, 2009.

Mabel's Wish: May 2010

http://mabelswish.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 18, 2010. It was a 12-year goodbye. In 1983 I was getting ready to graduate high school, and no one expected a 17 year old to have a strong sense of what was happening. Then on Good Friday her brother died unexpectedly. More stress. More behavior changes. More forgetfulness. Mabel, Clara, Ida, and Annie. The years continued to move quickly. Sisters died, brothers died. Still she lived alone in her house and talked each winter about waiting for spring and looked forward to working in ...As th...
