Broken wood bats are dangerous to the players, the coaches, and even the fans. It is observed that a large percentage of these failures are maple wood bats. For over 100 years, white ash has been the preferred species for making wood baseball bats. In the early 1990s, wood bat companies started producing wood baseball bats with Hard Maple.
