A Beginner Gardener's Guide to Beginning Gardening (and other unrelated experiments). I remember hating our compost bin when I grew up. It always stunk and had spiders hiding around the rim. I particularly hated the idea of going out at night. True to memory, our bin attracted a critter, but for us it was a big cheeky rat! Luckily we’ve had no more obvious rat tampering since that time. Friday, May 8, 2015. The happiest day of the year, or the saddest. A couple of years ago, childless friend of mine stopped me after Mass on Mother's Day. She confided to me about how sad she was because she couldn't stand up in church to receive the special Mother's Day blessing. Sothis post is for her, and for YOU.if you are a mother, will be a mother, or hope to become a mother some day. This is for you is you have lost a child through illness or injury, in military service. This year I get to celebrat...

A Beginner Confectionist

Thursday, May 22, 2014. This cute little melting snowmen Army was for a GA bake sale. They were a big hit with the kids. Watermelon flavored and decorated cupcakes. I didn't feel that these need all the extra frosting. This was my first horse cake. It was fun to make. His ears are longer but from this angle it's kind of hard to see. My first bunny face shaped cake with a carrot on the side. This was our son's first birthday cake. It was so much fun to make. I made these cupcakes for a neighbor. That is al...

My Cooking Adventures

Recipes and adventures from a beginner cook. 12 June, 2010. It's been a long time since I've cooked anything from scratch. The other night instead of pulling out the old go-to Bertolli Alfredo Sauce, I looked on All Recipes and found a basic white sauce recipe and tweaked it to my liking. Homemade White Sauce for Pasta. Adapted from: AllRecipes.com. 2 tbsp all-purpose flour. Salt and Pepper to taste. 1 tsp ground nutmeg. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese. 22 March, 2010. From: Guy Fieri on Food Network.

A Beginner Gardener | Learning as I go…

Learning as I go…. What happened to Spring? When I think of Spring I think of cold mornings turning into beautiful sunny days as the weather gets warmer and warmer leading into summer. Yet this weekend it could have been the middle of July with strong winds and a severe weather warning for rainfall. I had big gardening plans for this long weekend but the weather was not going to co-operate. My poor man still had to go to work (and my silly dog is sitting by the fence in the pouring rain watching him).

A fine WordPress.com site. On Boxing and Running. I know I’ve been quite a no show here in the blog! It’s been a week already and the last time I blog was my 10km run at the Robinsons Fit and Fun Buddy Run! I was so busy with work and E had to leave for Brazil so I was a little bit preoccupied. So I went back to running after my 10km last tuesday and skipped a run last wednesday to watch a movie with a friend (The Intership was hilarious! 🙂 It was a very productive day and was so happy! Starting from scratch

Sunday, July 11, 2010. So much for fences. Do you think it's at least partially hormonal that I cried (more than a little) at this sight? Friday, July 2, 2010. I have planted more than I can chew. Quick update only, because I'm supposed to be packing for our camping trip, but I noticed things were growing. GROWING! The pictures speak for themselves, but I have two comments about my choices in planting:. 2 What the hell am I supposed to do with so much mint? Isn't sun and water and time amazing! Can I let...
