Oh, to be in England!

Oh, to be in England! Saturday, September 29, 2007. Oh, to be in England,. Now that April's there,. And whoever wakes in England. Sees some morning, unaware,. That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf,. Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf. While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough. Home Thoughts from Abroad. I’m so glad you’ve decided to join me for a tour of England! If you would like the full “England effect,” you’ll have to go make yourself a cup of tea. Our family lived in England for ...

Oh, to be in England!: Day 17 -- Hull, Gainsborough, Scrooby, Babworth, and Austerfield

http://www.acrossthepond2007.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-17-hull-gainsborough-scrooby.html

Oh, to be in England! Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Day 17 - Hull, Gainsborough, Scrooby, Babworth, and Austerfield. Friday, August 10th. Hull and William Wilberforce. Another case exhibited one of the suits that Wilberforce had worn in the late 18th century. Exquisite! One peculiar thing about Hull was the curious cream-colored phone booths. This was the only place I saw phone booths in a color other than red. Leaving Hull, we traveled south into Nottinghamshire - and Pilgrim Father Country. We dro...

Oh, to be in England!: Day 16 -- Caerlaverock Castle, Hadrian's Wall, and York

http://www.acrossthepond2007.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-16-dumfries-hadrians-wall-and-york.html

Oh, to be in England! Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Day 16 - Caerlaverock Castle, Hadrian's Wall, and York. Thursday, August 9th. Our first stop in the morning was Caerlaverock, a classic medieval fortress. Like most of the other castles in southern Scotland, it is a ruin. Its unusual red-colored stone is quite stunning. Dad was quite thrilled to find a Trebuchet on the grounds. Doesn't this look like it could be the cover of. Our B&B for the night was a fifteen-minute walk from the city center, so we p...

Oh, to be in England!: Day 6 -- Windsor Castle and Hampton Court

http://www.acrossthepond2007.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-6-windsor-castle-and-hampton-court.html

Oh, to be in England! Friday, September 28, 2007. Day 6 - Windsor Castle and Hampton Court. Monday, July 30th. I didn’t remember the castle much at all (except for the doll house! So it was quite a treat to be back. The flowers and gardens were in full bloom. It seemed as though all of England was covered in flowers, but having been in London for five days, we hadn't had much of a chance to experience them yet. But, of course, we did not have a chance to see her. The number must be simply astronomical!

Oh, to be in England!: Day 11 -- Bath, Part 2 and Lacock (Meryton from Pride and Prejudice)

http://www.acrossthepond2007.blogspot.com/2007/09/day-11-bath-part-2.html

Oh, to be in England! Sunday, September 23, 2007. Day 11 - Bath, Part 2 and Lacock (Meryton from Pride and Prejudice). Saturday, August 4th. Bath, Part 2. We set out from our B&B in the morning and walked toward Bath. Taking a different route than we had the evening before, we walked through a lovely park and came out right across from Bath's famous Royal Crescent. Anyone who came in a floral dress got half-price admission. The lady who approached us was a photographer for the event, and took several...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Let's Talk Mesothelioma

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/lets-talk-mesothelioma.html

Monday, July 27, 2015. This is a departure from my typical "fare," but I was recently contacted by a gentleman who asked if I'd be willing to share some info about mesothelioma - his wife is a survivor of this particular cancer, so he was interested in getting the word out. Having lost my maternal grandmother to breast cancer when I was quite young, this is a theme close to my heart, as well. Just to clarify, this is not a sponsored post! Apparently it was even added to paints because of its properties a...

Thoughts and Thimbles: From the Lake to the Land

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/05/from-lake-to-land.html

Friday, May 08, 2015. From the Lake to the Land. Some new friends recently introduced us to a local playground and nature area - the kind of nature trails that dreams are made of. Maybe it helps that we first visited in Spring, while the wisteria was blooming. There's a lake, too. A beautiful, rippling lake. Walking through this little bit of paradise is like listening to "From the Lake to the Land". By Foreign Fields*. Peaceful. Mesmerizing. Something I want to do again and again. Oh, the wisteria!

Thoughts and Thimbles: Lilies

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/08/lilies.html

Wednesday, August 05, 2015. When a few green leaves poked up through the center of one particularly ordinary bush, we didn't give it much thought. Then calla lily blossoms started to unfurl, and we were suddenly much more interested. Such incredibly beautiful flowers - pure white, with a matte satin finish. But there were more beauties still in store. One by one, the white lilies became tinged with pink. One of those little mysteries that come with a rental! The words of Jesus from Luke 12:25-28. Its a g...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Surprise, Surprise

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/surprise-surprise.html

Monday, July 20, 2015. Weeding and pruning in the back yard, long past overdue. But this time procrastination paid off, because timely responsibility (and naive floral ignorance) would have pulled out the passion flower vine before it had time to bloom. And that would have been a shame, indeed. That happened to me earlier this year and through procrastination we discovered a gorgeous red flowering plant! Usually my procrastination has much less desirable results, so its nice when it pays off, isnt it?

Thoughts and Thimbles: Mint in the Morning

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/mint-in-morning.html

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Mint in the Morning. Pregnancy, post-partum, moving - three stages in life that are not particularly conducive to curating a "normal" wardrobe. Mine was certainly in distress! I've been good about paring down and getting rid of clothes that I no longer needed/wanted, but was starting to feel a bit of a pinch if I let the laundry go longer than a few days. With plenty of fabric on hand, the solution seemed obvious. I had a mint knit in my stash, purchased from Girl Charlee. Thoug...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Take a Bow

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/take-bow.html

Wednesday, July 01, 2015. No, not a bow - a bow! The hair accessory kind. Somehow Rosa just never seems to have enough bows. This is absurd, because she has quite a few in various colors and styles. But with materials on hand and a fabulous pattern/tutorial from oliver s. I decided to have a bit of fun. The cream bow is wool felt, and the black and brown bows are leather. The brown leather bow is particularly handy, as it's currently her only brown bow (poor, impoverished darling! Love, love these! Cente...

Thoughts and Thimbles: 03/01/2015 - 04/01/2015

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 28, 2015. That's a deceptively obvious statement, considering the amount of time, effort, etc., that was necessary to make it valid! Somehow, some way (I'm still fuzzy on the details) we managed to pack up our belongings and start the trek to Virginia. Actually, that's not entirely true, because it's very clear to me that the only way we did it was with an army of helpful friends and family, my parents (who made the 1-hour trek to our home an insane number of times that last month! So-eas...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Little Bits

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/little-bits.html

Thursday, July 16, 2015. Everything seems to be growing by leaps and bounds lately! Our little "garden" is sprouting up nicely, and our children seem to grow daily. I don't always notice so much until I put a dress on Rosa and realize it's now a tunic. Little Man showing off our largest pepper. I've been going through the book of Ecclesiastes with some ladies in a Bible Study, and it's been wonderful. I've always loved Ecclesiastes, but digging into it deeper is showing me so many things I'd missed b...

http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 27, 2015. I don't splurge on expensive fabrics - but when I do, I use every. last. scrap. The reasonsing is two-fold: if I spent more than usual it's probably because it's a fabric that I love, and having spent more than usual I'm determined to get every last penny out of my yardage! That's why I'm posting yet another project with Birch Fabric's Flight Canvas in Mineral. Paired with grey linen. I am definitely running low on my Flight canvas (I've already made a stroller canopy. From the...

To Paris and Beyond. Thursday, February 28, 2013. I started a new blog.here is the address:. Hope to see you there! Thursday, January 31, 2013. Not the Year in Review. I was going to post a nice long blog post reviewing last year, but that would involve a lot of writing and a lot of pictures. And I am not feeling well tonight. My allergies are awful and my head is pounding. So, I'll just do another random update with some random pictures. :). We have had Hannah for one year and one month! Me and my boy.

Across the Pond

Follow my (mis)adventures as I explore this beautiful world of ours. Sunday, November 8, 2009. You know you're in South America when.your one-hour 'direct' flight is delayed for half a day (there's no radar and when the fog finally clears the pilots are busy eating lunch), then you get a free, three-hour stop, two-plane-change aerial tour of the country, only to arrive 16 hours later, just beating the 18-hour bus ride you were initially trying to avoid. Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Opening my eyes after a b...

August 8, 2015. Oh Boy.Oh Boy. Tyler and I are excited to share that our family is growing and is being blessed by a little boy! Following are the scans from the various appointments (8, 10, and 13 weeks - I did not include the 6 week scan as the little guy was so small) - sorry for them being turned sideways as they are scans of the scans:. Across The Pond And Back Again

Sunday, May 17, 2015. I have always been proud of my daughter. She is smart (sometimes too smart for her own good). She is witty (I'd say most of the time, she'd say all of the time). She is passionate about her beliefs (many of which we share, some we do not). We have not always gotten along, but what parent gets along with their child 100% of the time? I have always been proud of my daughter. But today I am proud to be her friend. Monday, March 16, 2015. I wrote in to the BBC's Movie Review radio progr...
