Thoughts and Thimbles: Let's Talk Mesothelioma
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/lets-talk-mesothelioma.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. This is a departure from my typical "fare," but I was recently contacted by a gentleman who asked if I'd be willing to share some info about mesothelioma - his wife is a survivor of this particular cancer, so he was interested in getting the word out. Having lost my maternal grandmother to breast cancer when I was quite young, this is a theme close to my heart, as well. Just to clarify, this is not a sponsored post! Apparently it was even added to paints because of its properties a...

Thoughts and Thimbles: From the Lake to the Land
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/05/from-lake-to-land.html
Friday, May 08, 2015. From the Lake to the Land. Some new friends recently introduced us to a local playground and nature area - the kind of nature trails that dreams are made of. Maybe it helps that we first visited in Spring, while the wisteria was blooming. There's a lake, too. A beautiful, rippling lake. Walking through this little bit of paradise is like listening to "From the Lake to the Land". By Foreign Fields*. Peaceful. Mesmerizing. Something I want to do again and again. Oh, the wisteria!

Thoughts and Thimbles: Lilies
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/08/lilies.html
Wednesday, August 05, 2015. When a few green leaves poked up through the center of one particularly ordinary bush, we didn't give it much thought. Then calla lily blossoms started to unfurl, and we were suddenly much more interested. Such incredibly beautiful flowers - pure white, with a matte satin finish. But there were more beauties still in store. One by one, the white lilies became tinged with pink. One of those little mysteries that come with a rental! The words of Jesus from Luke 12:25-28. Its a g...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Surprise, Surprise
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/surprise-surprise.html
Monday, July 20, 2015. Weeding and pruning in the back yard, long past overdue. But this time procrastination paid off, because timely responsibility (and naive floral ignorance) would have pulled out the passion flower vine before it had time to bloom. And that would have been a shame, indeed. That happened to me earlier this year and through procrastination we discovered a gorgeous red flowering plant! Usually my procrastination has much less desirable results, so its nice when it pays off, isnt it?

Thoughts and Thimbles: Mint in the Morning
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/mint-in-morning.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Mint in the Morning. Pregnancy, post-partum, moving - three stages in life that are not particularly conducive to curating a "normal" wardrobe. Mine was certainly in distress! I've been good about paring down and getting rid of clothes that I no longer needed/wanted, but was starting to feel a bit of a pinch if I let the laundry go longer than a few days. With plenty of fabric on hand, the solution seemed obvious. I had a mint knit in my stash, purchased from Girl Charlee. Thoug...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Take a Bow
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/take-bow.html
Wednesday, July 01, 2015. No, not a bow - a bow! The hair accessory kind. Somehow Rosa just never seems to have enough bows. This is absurd, because she has quite a few in various colors and styles. But with materials on hand and a fabulous pattern/tutorial from oliver s. I decided to have a bit of fun. The cream bow is wool felt, and the black and brown bows are leather. The brown leather bow is particularly handy, as it's currently her only brown bow (poor, impoverished darling! Love, love these! Cente...

Thoughts and Thimbles: 03/01/2015 - 04/01/2015
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 28, 2015. That's a deceptively obvious statement, considering the amount of time, effort, etc., that was necessary to make it valid! Somehow, some way (I'm still fuzzy on the details) we managed to pack up our belongings and start the trek to Virginia. Actually, that's not entirely true, because it's very clear to me that the only way we did it was with an army of helpful friends and family, my parents (who made the 1-hour trek to our home an insane number of times that last month! So-eas...

Thoughts and Thimbles: Little Bits
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015/07/little-bits.html
Thursday, July 16, 2015. Everything seems to be growing by leaps and bounds lately! Our little "garden" is sprouting up nicely, and our children seem to grow daily. I don't always notice so much until I put a dress on Rosa and realize it's now a tunic. Little Man showing off our largest pepper. I've been going through the book of Ecclesiastes with some ladies in a Bible Study, and it's been wonderful. I've always loved Ecclesiastes, but digging into it deeper is showing me so many things I'd missed b...

Thoughts and Thimbles: 02/01/2015 - 03/01/2015
http://thoughtsandthimbles.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. I don't splurge on expensive fabrics - but when I do, I use every. last. scrap. The reasonsing is two-fold: if I spent more than usual it's probably because it's a fabric that I love, and having spent more than usual I'm determined to get every last penny out of my yardage! That's why I'm posting yet another project with Birch Fabric's Flight Canvas in Mineral. Paired with grey linen. I am definitely running low on my Flight canvas (I've already made a stroller canopy. From the...
