Day in Dubai

Dubai - United Arab Emirates. Typical shop in the Dubai Gold Souk. Handle considerable amounts of traffic easily; but grind to a halt during rush hour. It's a very clean, modern city. Dubai has been called the Crown Jewel of the Middle East. I couldn't disagree. When we arrived at the Heritage Center. Traditional Arab basket weaving displayed at the Heritage Center in Dubai. That were available for rides; but not so much that I climbed on one. When we'd seen everything, we headed back for the hotel.

Iraklion to Corfu

We obtained our weather briefing, then went to the air traffic control tower. Our route took us over several islands along the west coast of Greece. Instrument flying charts show navigational aids not cities, so despite the clouds below us, we dug out an atlas and had a marvelous time trying to identify islands and towns we flew by. My Turn to Fly. JP on the telephone with Saudi ATC in the Bahrain Weather Office. He did so, I retracted the flaps on schedule and we continued our climb to our assigned cruise altitude of 10,000 feet. During our climb, the departure controller in Bahrain gave us a series of left turns that pointed us westbound, then handed us off to the Saudi controller as we approached Dhahran. Tombs and Temples

Art from the 15th century B.C.E. in a temple at Deir-el-Bahri in the Valley of the Kings. I awoke shortly before the wake up call and went down to the restaurant. Sayyed met us at 6:30. What can one say when faced with 4,000 year old art. Like most people, I've been impressed by ancient Egyptian displays in museums; but that's nothing more than disconnected artifacts. Faced with the real thing in the place it was made leaves me speechless.

Corfu to Lausanne

Is "ancient" rock 'n roll. The view from the ATC Tower at Kerkyra. The equipment was considerably more up-to-date than its counterpart in Iraklion. Our route was northwest, along the coast of Italy. The Washington's Roving Adventures. 2nd day of Montreal Vacation. Great temperature and a lot of walking summed up the 2nd day of our vacation. We decided to pick the Olympic stadium, Biodome, and insectarium to view. Loads of photos and great views, even stopped in on the Montreal soccer teams practice.
