Friday, 12 June 2015. Sitting on the dock. Ok, it might be classified as a bay, but it is a man-made dock here in Copenhagen - again. Goteburg is definitely worth another visit as is Oslo. In both cities we did a very brief overview in a bus of a few hours. But there were museums, galleries, etc. worthy of exploration that we did not get to see, so this is great to know and plan to come back sometime . Saturday, 6 June 2015. adventures-eva: Boat(s)

http://www.adventures-eva.blogspot.com/2014/06/boats.html

Tuesday, 10 June 2014. Someone sent me an email just the other day reminding me of how much he and K liked boats. Well, this river has enough for all! The picture is of the Theodore Korner - the boat I am travelling on. It is a delightful home base. I keep taking pictures of all the different boats, and am amassing quite a collection. This area definitely relies on the river for all kinds of transport. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Water under the bridge. Getting to know you.

Sunday, 15 June 2014. And just be in a whole different way. Make no mistake, I would not change my 'home' life, but exploring and learning is a delightful change. But it is time to head back. I am looking forward to my people, my house, my routines, my flowers, my bicycle. I have many pictures and will share them and my travels with anyone who will listen. Happy Father's day to all you Dads! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Water under the bridge. Getting to know you. When life gives you lemons.

adventures-eva: Eurodam

http://www.adventures-eva.blogspot.com/2015/06/eurodam.html

Friday, 5 June 2015. The ship is huge. She is 290 m long and on this trip, she has just under 2,000 guests, plus about 900 crew. And aside from the mayhem at disembark this morning, the organization has been great. One can only tell it is a ship (and not a hotel) when you sit still and feel the rumble under your seat, lie in your bed and be gently rocked to sleep, or sit at a table and watch the slight quiver of the orchids. So today is Friday. We are anchored off the docks and had to be tendered to ...

Saturday, 31 May 2014. If you go down to the woods today. The rain was fairly steady most of the morning while I was in at the Saturday market - bread, smoked salmon and cheese (does life get any better? The rain has been welcome as the weather has been quite dry lately, though I don't know that anyone wants to rhubarb to grow even faster and bigger. Friday, 30 May 2014. Thursday, 29 May 2014. We further enjoyed the glorious day with supper on the back porch - thanks IKEA for making good pizza! I find go...

Tuesday, 25 June 2013. How to wrap up the Scotland visit? Did I see all the sites of the area? Did I try all of the Scottish delicacies? Did I get the feel of all the different areas? Did I get all the bargains? How wonderful that there is still lots of Edinburgh left for me to come and explore should the opportunity present itself. Monday, 24 June 2013. A lovely day - thanks Rhonda for the great driving and tour! Sunday, 23 June 2013. High on a 350 million year old volcanic rock, sits Edinburgh Castle&#...

WAL Specialty Woodworking: December 2010

http://walwoodwork.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. This is photo of a Fibonacci gauge. The gauge helps the carpenter recreate the Golden Ratio which means things will have proportions that are pleasing to the eye. It is important that the ratio of length to width is correct or even a well made project will not be viewed as satisfactory. It is sort of interesting that a very old tool is resting atop a very new tool. I like wooden things but.often use the laptop. (like right now). Cat Cutting Board, Cat Shaped that is,. The butt...

WAL Specialty Woodworking: Best Knife for the Money.

http://walwoodwork.blogspot.com/2015/04/best-knife-for-money.html

Friday, April 3, 2015. Best Knife for the Money. Mora Sweden is the home of Moraknif. Moraknif makes the famous Frost Knife, the traditional sloyd. Knife from Scandinavia. It is worth watching Roy Underhill's video, Who wrote the Book Of Sloyd. I have several Mora knives. In fact I have a couple of 'Frost' knives from before the two companies were amalgamated. The Basic 511 is razor sharp when you buy it and.it cost $7.50 Cdn. Yes it comes with a terrible snap-in plastic sheath but so-what! Now I am not ...

Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Marble Tree and Marvelous Kieran. This is my Sweet Wife, Wonderful Step Daughter and Super Cool Grandson. Kieran learned to put the balls on the Marble Tree very quickly and was quite taken with the sounds it made. These toys are for sale at Textures in Hamilton and Elephant Thoughts in Collingwood. If you are a Mason you should recognize the level and plumb rule. The tools at my Lodge needed to be replaced and so I made there. The plumb rule is walnut and the level walnut at Poplar.

WAL Specialty Woodworking: Bora Combination Square

http://walwoodwork.blogspot.com/2014/08/bora-combination-square.html

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. I have not used a combination square on a regular basis for years. The first combination square I bought was cheap and inaccurate and so it never found a spot in working method of work. In fact I threw it out years ago. Bora 12 inch Magnetic Combination Square. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Bora Magnetic Combination Square. On a clearance sale. I know Bora to make good tools so I gave it a try I love it. Check out the video: Magnetic square. Thursday, November 25, 2010. These are some of the things I've done lately to stock up at Textures. The last while has seen shop time interrupted by holiday time. Sweden was a very cool place to visit. Berlin was sort of scary but very interesting. Iceland, why does anyone live there? Nicest is to be home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. WAL Specialty Woodworking: January 2010

http://walwoodwork.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 30, 2010. For the last week I have been feeling sort of down in the dumps. My nose is plugged and my eyes are watering and sneezes sneak up on me without warning. So, to fight back I have been taking sinus pills and cough syrup. I suspect that there will be a Saw Stop in my future. Saturday, January 23, 2010. Poplar, Aspen. Cottonwood etc. Another bonus to poplar is that it is not a commonly used wood in many applications and so very reasonable to buy. It is also available in wide b...

Tuesday, June 22, 2010. This is a Band Saw box made from recovered lumber. The body is black water based stain and the drawer fronts are shellac. Wood Working For Mere Mortals gets some of the credit for my finally getting off my butt and making this. Thanks Steve. This is also my first attempt at Flocking. It requires a long drying time, really. I will let it have longer drying time next time. Monday, June 7, 2010. More Boxes, but these have a use! WAL Specialty Woodworking: January 2011

http://walwoodwork.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 31, 2011. Last fall my wife and I were in Sweden. Sweden's capital Stockholm is very beautiful and set on a dozen or so islands. There are hundred's of boats of all types docked around those islands and within easy strolling distance of down town. We saw these boats being built. It wood is nasty looking softwood and the fit kind of rough. I was told that the wood swells and the bottoms and cracks are filled with tar and paint and the boat is put to work. Woodgears.ca is the original site for this and many other ideas. Friday, February 25, 2011. In progress: Knitting Needle Box. Open box with tray that fits inside. Closed and as yet unfinished box. I am planning to stain it in a walnut browns. The elm takes water based stain well. Monday, February 21, 2011. This blog...

Sunday, November 4, 2012. Back home on Isla Mujeres. At six in the morning I can hear the tired engine and the loud exhaust sounds of the muffler-less municipal garbage truck. The crew operating the garbage truck are currently only two houses south of ours. I have to hustle to get the can out on the street before they pass us by. The guys wave and holler a greeting as the truck slowly rolls up to our curb. Our can is emptied, and carefully placed back on the street right-side up with lid affixed. We deal...
