The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. All posts by asouth. Meeting my MP for #SpeakUp Week of Action on climate change. October 31, 2016. It’s not a huge secret that my political views are left of centre. Over the years I have met a few MPs about various issues. But I have always struggled to put my point across effectively to Conservatives. How do you communicate with someone who doesn’t share any of your values? In preparation for the Week of Action...

The Cycling Stuntman
https://bikevcar.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/the-cycling-stuntman
March 1, 2015. My Dad recently alerted me to this fine piece of vintage cycling comedy. At first viewing I thought it was another modern ‘mockumentary’ of someone being absurdly gauche. But it turns out to be honest 1970s British reporting. The world may not have changed for the better over the last 40 years, but man has it changed. Enjoy:. Http:/ player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-cycling-stunt-man-atv-today-1974-1974/. Evel Knievel he ain’t! Long rides or short rides: a matter of perspective. I suspected it ...

The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. First dormouse at my new site. June 23, 2015. After last month’s disappointment. And the huge proportion of boxes that were being used by birds) I didn’t have high hopes for the dormouse box checks this month. But, once again, I was wrong. On my fourth monthly box check we finally found a dormouse! Torpid dormouse found on my box check in June. Feel free to share this post! May Photography Challenge: garden. Enter...

The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. Too darn hot (or how to help wildlife in a heatwave). July 2, 2015. Firstly, an apology for my non-UK readers: this is a post about the weather, specifically, me moaning because it's a temperature that for many of you is perfectly normal. I can't help it, I'm English. Keep a bird bath topped up with clean water. Gets used by lots of wildlife. Don’t forget to feed the birds and hedgehogs – it can be par...Water you...

The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. The best of the Wild South. Here are what I think are the highlights from Wild South. Let me know if you think I’ve missed any gems! The ferry departing from the small harbour on Lundy. Build a mini pond. 12 ways to find mammals. Pawprints from the mammal tunnel. Whose pawprints are these? In which I search for otters and water shrews, and end up finding something even rarer. In search of water voles. Enter your e...

Not Rule 5
https://bikevcar.wordpress.com/2015/02/21/not-rule-5
February 21, 2015. Man, have I gone soft. Or maybe just fussy. Or maybe fussy. Anyway, it seems fairly unlikely that I would take up face-sandblasting as a hobby, so maybe hail-storm cycling in freezing weather just isn’t for me. And if that makes me a “fair-weather” cyclist then so be it. Roll on Spring …. Posted in: Bike V Car. Tagged: Rule 5 cycling. 5 thoughts on “ Not Rule 5. February 21, 2015 at 10:22 pm. Wimp I was in the pub during that hail storm. Didn’t look so bad. February 21, 2015 at 10:25 pm.

Decision | Ninja Mondays

April 7, 2015. At times, is one of the of the hardest things to make in this world. The enormity of pros and cons, along with the logical, rationale of your head and your experiences verses. The desires and pulls of your heart – fighting for unbalance. All the while, with extra weight being added on one side or another by a friend, family member or a stranger who unintentionally plonks their weight on too. However, if you really think about it, (a lot of the time) you have. Already made your decision.

A hedgehog in the daytime – disaster or delight? | Wild South

The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. A hedgehog in the daytime – disaster or delight? August 8, 2015. I was getting concerned for our garden’s hedgehog population – we hadn’t seen one for a while, and the mealworms I had left out went uneaten for a few days (that never happens if hedgehogs are about! But I wasn’t expecting my next sighting of a hedgehog to be in broad daylight. A look at the British Hedgehog Preservation Society website. Or it could ...

August dormousing: a new nest | Wild South
https://wildsouthuk.wordpress.com/2015/08/16/august-dormousing-a-new-nest
The best of the Wild South. The British Animal Challenge. British animal challenge updates. August dormousing: a new nest. August 16, 2015. August is firmly into dormouse breeding season, so it’s always an exciting month to check boxes. Added to the usual suspense of will there be a sweet dormouse in this box, is the added possibility of even sweeter baby dormice. So, on a sunny morning trekking through the woods in search of dormice is a rather pleasant occupation. Well, the birds have long ago finished...
