And after I planted them, the dog dug up two, but luckily one remained underground and has now flourished into a fine specimen of a plant. Lots of lovely cones! Hopping started off with adding hops directly from the bine to the first runnings of the mash – first wort hops as fresh as they could possibly be! Did I mention there were other ingredients in this beer other than hops?

It’s that time of year again – time to reach for the spice cupboard and brew up a beer for the pending festive season! This years Christmas Ale recipe is not totally dissimilar in design to last year. It being a spiced Belgian-style ale. Indeed some of the same spices have been used, but this year I remembered to buy some ginger and also threw in some Curacao orange peel. Bit of a bite.
