Von dort ging es mit dem Auto nach San Franscisco und letztlich bis Monterey in Kalifornien. Danach fuhren wir zurück nach Oregon und flogen letztlich wieder zurück nach Burlington, Vermont. Wir lebten von 2008 bis 2010 in Vanier, dem alten Arbeiterviertel in Kanadas Hauptstadt Ottawa, in der Provinz Ontario. Im Rahmen dieser Zeit besuchten wir die größten kanadischen Ostküstenstädte, die Niagara Fälle und als einzige Punkte an der Westküste, sahen wir auch Whistler und Vancouver in der Provinz British Columbia - ein Jahr vor den olympischen Winterspielen, die 2010 dort stattfanden.
