The News Bandit: Thursday's debate
http://thenewsbandit.blogspot.com/2007/11/thursdays-debate.html
Stealing back the news — one story at a time. This is a blog about the news and anything else I think is awesome enough to share. Tuesday, November 20, 2007. I smell a big bad Wolf. In trying to curb any unfair front-runner attack formations, Wolf allowed Hillary to speak more than anyone else, rarely interrupted her and cut off Dennis Kucinich anytime he spoke the truth about her past. 8220;Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who actually gets it right the first time around? Hillary said she wouldn&...

The Student Journalist and the Web: December 2007
http://studentjournalistsonweb.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
The Student Journalist and the Web. Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Crowdsourcing and flexible lines. The idea is this: call on your readers to give you the stories, to look at your FOI documents, to find the things that are within their expertise so you can use your expertise and find the story. Is it a good thing? Are putting ourselves in line to rely too much on the audience? Worse, are we giving up our position as the agenda setters? And not crowd reporting. Or crowds as the newspaper. Personally, I don...

The News Bandit: Montel Williams is crazy.
http://thenewsbandit.blogspot.com/2007/12/montel-williams-is-crazy.html
Stealing back the news — one story at a time. This is a blog about the news and anything else I think is awesome enough to share. Sunday, December 2, 2007. Montel Williams is crazy. Here's the proof: Montel Williams blows up at reporters. And here I always thought it would be Rikki Lake who would snap under the pressures of extreme fame. It just goes to show you what a celebrity-obsessed culture we live in that this is the top story on CNN. But Montel does have nice and shiny head, at least.

The Student Journalist and the Web. Friday, November 30, 2007. Blogs Blogs and more Blogs. What does having a blog do for you as a journalist? I mean, yes, the papers and media outlets we all want to go work for are looking for young people with new ideas and media skills such as creating Web sites (check), updating sites (check), knowing the software (check) and blogging (double check). But for how long is this skill going to be something they look for when considering our applications? I feel like a tr...

The Student Journalist and the Web: October 2007
http://studentjournalistsonweb.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
The Student Journalist and the Web. Wednesday, October 31, 2007. I was working on a class assignment podcast that I turned into a round-table discussion with professors about the ethics of having an opinion while being a journalist. You can hear it here: utexaspodcasts.com. Anyway, the question I came away with after this is one people have been grappling with since new media came around - does the blog/podcast media almost demand that journalists express opinions in order for them to work? This blog aim...

Stealing back the news — one story at a time. This is a blog about the news and anything else I think is awesome enough to share. Wednesday, October 31, 2007. FEMA, how we've missed you. Hello and welcome to my blog. Publicist sacked over faked questions. I am, however, not surprised that they botched this up too. They probably thought this new publicist would be good at scamming the American public and covering up their incompetence. They thought wrong. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My favorite Web sites.

The News Bandit: Hope floats
http://thenewsbandit.blogspot.com/2007/12/hope-floats.html
Stealing back the news — one story at a time. This is a blog about the news and anything else I think is awesome enough to share. Monday, December 3, 2007. Brad Pitt helps impoverished New Orleans residents by designing floatable houses. It sounds like an interesting concept that could also be used in other places on water, such as Florida. Especially if global climate change really will increase the amount or intensity of hurricanes in the future. Floatable houses! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
