Anglo-Saxon Paganism - Old English Community
http://old-english.livejournal.com/51988.html
I'm looking for good sources on Anglo-Saxon Paganism. Something exploring historical record, archaeology, and surviving modern practices. Thanks in advance! ETA: Can anyone tell me if this page. Is at all worth my time? It seems to have some decent info, but I don't know how much stock to put in their interpretations. May 28th, 2012 05:45 am (UTC). Startlingly, even in what might be though of as the depths of England, there are more surviving Celtic practices than Anglo-Saxon pagan ones. Thanks. I fi...

Performance of epics etc. - Old English Community
http://old-english.livejournal.com/50875.html
Performance of epics etc. Dear fellow Anglo-Saxonist aficionados,. Could anyone advise me on some reading about how poetry was actually performed, i.e. the surrounding, the context, the location (obviously this is the mead-hall), especially the food and drink and the kinds of social and magical rituals that may have accompanied it. Many thanks! December 23rd, 2010 03:26 pm (UTC). The main ritual seems to have been telling people to shut up and listen (the notorious "Hwaet! The comments I was thinking of:...

Pronunciation Question - Old English Community
http://old-english.livejournal.com/52791.html
Knock knock* Anyone in here? Im trying to get back into my Old English, this time with proper and correct pronunciations and the aspirated H and the whole nine yards, but now Im wondering, is the Anglo-Saxon R flipped or trilled? All Ive seen is pronounce it like a modern English R and that sounds so off to my German-conditioned ear. If someone could confirm the correct pronunciation, Id be much obliged. The Bear Went Over the Mountain, Part VII: naums
http://naums.livejournal.com/9048.html
The Bear Went Over the Mountain, Part VII. Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to Cyphers Mine we go. At Cyphers Mine a real gold mine once owned by one, Charlie Cyphers the ground is so stony that there’s nowhere to stake out a tent. So crews stay in three-sided muckshacks, rather like one sees in the Adirondacks. There were eight of us, so we had more room in our muckshack than some crews do, though some of our more active sleepers made it an eventful night for everybody. When were you on staff? A Philmont hiker, I,.

Great Thanksgiving for Scout Sunday: naums
http://naums.livejournal.com/11802.html
Great Thanksgiving for Scout Sunday. We celebrated Scout Sunday this morning, the first Sunday in February. I know that The UMC designates the second Sunday in February as the primary Sunday. Nobody knows why, though I've heard that maybe it has to do with the first Sunday being a communion Sunday in many churches. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia! Not to us, O Lord, but to thy Name be glory. Blessed are those who are invited. To the marriage supper of the Lamb. With the bread of heaven.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain, Part VIII: naums
http://naums.livejournal.com/9255.html
The Bear Went Over the Mountain, Part VIII. We were up early because we had a 9:00 am appointment for horse rides at Clark’s Fork. We made it there by eight. Melodie, Makayla, Ben, and Jordan went for a morning ride while Scott, Kaleb, Connor, and I set up camp. Then it was Nap Time! The menu was beef stew (very good), home-made biscuit, and peach cobbler: all you could eat, and that was a lot for a bunch of hungry teenagers and their advisors! The way home is over that ridge. Tooth Ridge is a very tough...
