Dave and Susan live the Alaska Lifestyle. Their home is a log cabin. They garden, hunt, fish, gather berries, and enjoy an outdoor-based life. With wilderness on every side of us and wild animals wandering throughout the area, all we have to do is get out into the hills to enjoy Alaska. Our family has a favorite lake where we camp and fish for grayling. Each year we watch bald eagles raise their young in a nest near the lake as mated swans, loons, otter, and beaver go about their natural activities.

For our coach, it was a piss poor year, which forced us to deal with our own budget at the same time we fretted about the country's. Still, nothing exists in a vacuum, so we try our level best to keep an eye on everything. And enjoy life all the while. Sometimes that is easier than other times. And the hummers partied on.

A lot of people are happy just to look out over the expanse of an ocean and listen to the sound of the waves on the coast. I like that too. But hunter/gatherer better describes how I like to appreciate the sea and its many and diversified resources. Musseling, crabbing, clamming, all fun and we go as often as tide and time will allow.
