732 Valley Street | Historical Happenings in Albemarle County, Virginia

https://albemarle.wordpress.com/732-valley-street-scottsville

Historical Happenings in Albemarle County, Virginia. Saving the past for the future. Renovation work of the Terrell/Stinson/Meeks house began in early 2006 soon after being purchased, but came to screeching halt after the Town of Scottsville revoked the building permit I was working under. After “fighting” city hall for nearly a year, I was once a again issued a building permit and work started again. Slow to get it right. Slow to do it by myself. Slow because it is a labor of love. Historical Happenings in Albemarle County, Virginia. Saving the past for the future. Peyton Harrison’s 10 Lot Addition. This new 10 lot addition fronted on Valley Street and extended back to Harrison Street. This area saw a mixture of commercial and residential usages at the terminus of the Staunton and James River Turnpike. Was just above and across the street from the “turnpike tollhouse lot”. It was sold to James Brady in 1831. The property changed hands many times. The house at 732 Valley Street ...

Nothing but the Truth. The no-spin zone for Scottsville, Virginia. Archive for February, 2008. On February 28, 2008 by Steven G. Meeks. Although, the rotting condition of the railings and columns are very visible, there is no visible line item in the Town’s budget to fix anything. In fact it was a member of the general public who pointed out the problem to the Town. On February 23, 2008 by Steven G. Meeks. Has anyone noticed the “sample” street light in front of Town Hall? A conversation with any person ...

Even though it was the second oldest business establishment in down town Scottsvlle, the early history of the Dew Drop is unknown at least to this author. Does it in fact date back to the time of Earl Hamner’s youth? Was in always in the same location? Who ran it before the Lohr’s purchased it? On January 7, 2008 by Steven G. Meeks. Like S...

I applaud this group for stepping up to the plate to insure that future projects will live up to their promise. On March 13, 2008 by Steven G. Meeks. With poles in place, the power company that be, installed their “lights” as a temporary measure until the manufacturer can put the approved design back into production. With a pinkish glow, half the street is lit ...One day when ...
