Santiago is the patron saint of Spain, and his day is a major holiday there. This year, that meant a long weekend, and some people took advantage of it by driving up the road as far as they could, leaving the car in a turn-out and backpacking up the valley. The clerical community has been halved and now consists of two brothers - Padre Jesus and Padre Ramon. Padre Jesus's mother lives here as well, along with one of her grandsons. Burgos was the first capital of Castilla (breaking away from León), the birthplace of El Cid, and the base of power of Franco. After that, we went back to the cathedral and sang for the Pilgrim's Mass at noon. Very full, with a dozen co-celebrants, and a sweet-voiced soprano nun as cantor. Shower, do a sinkful of laundry, take a short walk. 8:30 warm ups in the church. 9:45 - 11:00 rehearsals. 11:00 café and tea. 11:15 - 1:00 rehearsals. 4:00 - 8:00 more rehearsal. Socializing in the bar. Much of the food is home-grown, coming fresh from the garden, dried from last year's crop, or from the livestock.

Back onto the bus and set out once more, stopping again at Las Huelgas, this time just to play tourist and take the guided tour.
