March 6th, 2010 (01:23 pm). When you spend a decade of a 24-year life working for the local Renaissance Festival, you don't so much acquire a costume as a wardrobe. A good portion of mine is made by me, and what isn't made by me is still largely handmade. For example, my new pants:. I want this one. February 8th, 2010 (04:42 pm). Listening to: Old X-Files Episodes. I don't think I've ever been so famous on the internet as that Batman top made me. I even stumbled upon. Contrary to how I sound in the previ...

If a tree falls in the forest... - Corvus tristis: Art, Craft, and an Odd Bird

If a tree falls in the forest. December 13th, 2009 (11:43 am). Is one lonely fingerless glove a Knuck. I've come to realize that I'm a horribly slow knitter. While I may have gained some speed in the actual wrap-and-pull process of knitting, I have such a tendency to get distracted from or totally forget projects that my overall finishing rate has little improved from my first lumpy, shameful scarf (which took me somewhereabouts six months). Posted by: ( (Anonymous). From Leslie the Fiber Pirate. The Cro...

Book Review: Built by Wendy Dresses. March 3rd, 2010 (08:07 pm). Listening to: BBC News. Shortly before packing up to move to the farm, I won a book in a Clevergirl.org. This, I decided, would be my first book review. It is not, you may recall, my first attempt. My first attempt ended in disaster. When, after taking all pictures and writing up my thoughts, my computer literally melted, leaving me not with a beautiful review of Weekend Sewing. But instead a large brick of metal, plastic and disappointment.

March 4th, 2010 (07:48 am). Hey, remember my nerdtastic Knucks. I did actually finish them a few weeks ago. I know! They're utterly nerdy, and amazingly comfortable. Knucks is a lovely pattern to work with, perfectly shaped, and the cable pattern fitted onto the back with no major issues. I can't wait to use both patterns again. To keep the yarn flowing. Long-time readers may remember this yarn. Knitpicks Shine Sport). It never made it far as Calla. And thusfar, I'm much happier with its new incarnation.

Long-Awaited Project (By Me, At Least) - Corvus tristis: Art, Craft, and an Odd Bird

Long-Awaited Project (By Me, At Least). January 26th, 2010 (02:43 pm). Ages ago, I won a copy of Weekend Sewing. Off a blog contest. I gleefully set about preparing my first book review for this blog, noting down thoughts in a Word file, photographing pages, and setting to make a project (because, after all, how can you properly evaluate a craft book without putting its instructional capabilities to the test? One pair of PJ pants later, I was about a fourth of the way through editing the photos when boom!

August 11th, 2009 (08:39 pm). What do you think of, in relation to art/craft/making, when you hear the term upcycling? Reusable bags crocheted from grocery store plastic. Jewelry from obsolete tech. Weaving old t-shirts on a scrapwood loom. The Ol' Slash and Smash. This is James' second sword, and was a gift to me for to accent my costume. At ye olde summer job. Some girls get flowers; I get archaic weaponry. Isn't it fantastic? So what's this about upcycling? And the basket, that next:. Thusfar, I've si...
