An American Gringa in Rio

An American Gringa in Rio. Thursday, July 7, 2011. Since Ben and I arrived in Brazil, everyone has been as gracious as grandmas in sharing their culture - particularly their country's food. From street meat to home cooked beans and cachaca liquor to skewered chicken hearts, the foods they feed us have proven to be just as unique as the Brazilians who love them. But short of taking them to McDonald's, we didn't think we had many options. What foods are exclusively American? Does that make us fat kids?

An American Gringa in Rio: March 2011

http://www.alifeonceimagined.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

An American Gringa in Rio. Sunday, March 27, 2011. So before coming here, I began to wonder how exactly I'd stay hydrated. I mean, beer can only go so far. Also, how would I make coffee or brush my teeth? Would my skin absorb this water in the shower? So many worries . which (mostly) all proved to be unnecessary. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. My original name for this blog was "A Life Once Imagined," a title inspired by my favorite quote: "Live the life you imagine." And so far living here in Brazil has b...

An American Gringa in Rio: Itacare

http://www.alifeonceimagined.blogspot.com/2011/05/itacare.html

An American Gringa in Rio. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. The four of us arrived to Iheus, Bahia, into a small airport. We rented a car and were soon driving out of the city, over rivers and finally along the palm-tree clad coast. After an hour 1/2 of roads that rivaled a roller coaster, we turned on the main drag (and one of the only streets) of Itacare. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I love an adventure - no matter how ordinary it may be. Because trying new things is what keeps a life from becoming a ...

An American Gringa in Rio: Dogs

http://www.alifeonceimagined.blogspot.com/2011/06/dogs.html

An American Gringa in Rio. Sunday, June 5, 2011. While we're surrounded by beauty and culture in Brazil, the troves of homeless animals are part of the country that isn't advertised in travel brochures or send home on postcards. Like in Mexico or parts of Europe (and probably lots of other place I haven't been to yet), there are tons feral animals living in the city. This kitty was in Lapa in Rio. Feeding some of our furry friends. And the animals seem to love people right back. I've gotten to know s...

An American Gringa in Rio: Buses

http://www.alifeonceimagined.blogspot.com/2011/06/buses.html

An American Gringa in Rio. Monday, June 27, 2011. Much like a washing machine, hair dryer and Ranch dressing, having a car was something Ben and I knew we'd be giving up by moving to Brazil. But having relied solely on public transportation in the past (Australia and England), I knew it wouldn't be too bad. And it really hasn't been. Brazil has enough buses running to get us pretty much wherever we need to go. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Smith Family: Cheese Face

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2012/12/cheese-face.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. Avery has become a master of the cheese face. I ask her to smile nice and the smile just gets even more ridiculous. What can you do? Looks like we will have lots of photos with Avery looking like she is in pain for the unforeseeable future! Avery and her cheese face at preschool. She is spraying snow with colored water. Cheese face showing off her new hair do and hair bling. The bling is the pink tinsel. Her hair just naturally looks highlighted. Carla Sonheim: Snowball Journals.

The Smith Family: February 2013

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. We had a fun Valentines Day. Avery woke up to a bag of goodies. She got the Disney Peter Pan and some new paints from us. She also got some fun surprises from my folks and my inlaws. She loved everything. I made pink waffles topped with chocolate syrup for breakfast, they even had purple sprinkles mixed into the batter. She could have cared less :( Ohwell. Now we are just waiting for Sam to get home and we will pick up some Chinese take out and watch a movie. I have not really wr...

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. On a good note, things are finally moving again. Those dang drywall guys sure do take their sweet @$ time. But, it was painted yesterday and when I did a drive by earlier today the cabinets had been delivered and are sitting in the garage. Our appliances also arrived and are sitting @ Sears waiting for the builder to pick them up! Or "I am not repeating you! Needless to say, preschool this September cannot come soon enough! Making Grandpa do the hard part ;). Avery wanted to try ...

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. It has been a crazy busy March. If you have not already heard Sam is leaving his job. But.WE AREN'T MOVING! The Smith Family: September 2012

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. Avery's 3 year check up was our best to date. She actually let her doctor examine her! She was 26 pounds even, which puts her in the 10th percentile and was 34 3/4 inches tall putting her in the 25th percentile. Finally, after 2 1/2 years of being at 0 for weight we are on the chart and the doctor is satisfied and happy with our 5 pound weight gain over the past year. Other than that we are starting to get excited for winter and the holidays! And we have a preschooler! Big Week i...

The Smith Family: and we have a preschooler!

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2012/09/and-we-have-preschooler.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. And we have a preschooler! So today was Avery's first day at preschool. She did pretty good considering I had to stay. I think she is often better behaved when I am not around. It was just half her class today, the other half went on Tuesday. Next week all 20 kids will be there and from what I heard of the Tuesday class it is going to be rowdy. There are LOTS of boys! Avery eating her yummy breakfast! Cinnamon rolls are her favorite :). Avery all ready to go! From AK to AZ.

The Smith Family: May 2012

http://smthpak.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Sam, Rachelle and Avery. Where has May gone? We have been more than a little busy recently! I just have about a car load of groceries and some cleaning left to do. I have a 2 month break until the next move. I went and bought our appliances on Saturday! It is done and they will arrive June 27. Sears will hold them if our builder isn't ready for them yet. I got a deal with the Memorial Day sale and was so happy to know that Sears here honored the online prices! Sam turned 30 today! Avery spotted a sun star.

A Life on Two Wheels

A Life on Two Wheels. One motorcyclist's view of the world, filtered through the experiences of a liftetime on two wheels. Tuesday, July 3, 2012. When your tired bones are accustomed to ninety degree heat, two hundred forty miles of gusty, rainy fifty degree air feels like a long, long ride. Grace and I were a rolling speed bump again, even through the rough, rutted road construction just below Snoqualmie Pass, where the game seemed to be "let's tailgate the pilot car, maybe he'll go faster.". With Grace...

Life On A Page

Life On A Page. Tuesday, April 28, 2009. One of the pages that we try to do in every scrapbook is a favorites page. We punch out some kind of shape and write favorite things on each shape . favorite food, favorite color, favorite vacation, . I was very disheartened. I wanted to jump in and do something, offer to drive, offer to do this or that or something else. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all week. Where do I fit and how much can I do? A life on a plate. Genuine food learnt from generations of women. Journeys, stories and pictures. In My Kitchen April/May. May 5, 2015. April was a busy month with part of it spent in Jordan. Spring in Jordan is a wonderful time of the year when the air is cool, gentle sun and most places you look at are carpeted with a beautiful green. As soon as we arrived, my good friend Lara told me of a picnic they are arranging forty minutes outside Amman in Madaba. In Food E Mag. Then we cooked few extra things li...
