Alison Wonderland: May 2010

http://alisonashwell.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Alison Ashwell's Adventures as a Digital Artist. Sunday, May 30, 2010. A few weeks ago, the giant Marché d’Intérêt National de NICE. {MIN}, a kind of wholesale food and flower market for market traders and shops had an open weekend so that ordinary people see behind the scenes and buy merchandise. I like the different shapes, colours and spiny arangements on the cacti. This huge cactus had a hefty asking price. I wouldn't fancy lugging something like that home on the bus. Sunday, May 30, 2010. The strong...

Alison Wonderland: Speed Of Flight

http://alisonashwell.blogspot.com/2009/09/speed-of-flight.html

Alison Ashwell's Adventures as a Digital Artist. Friday, September 18, 2009. Regularly get mistaken for humming birds despite the fact that humming birds are never found in the Old World. The moths are quite unusual as they fly during the day, even in the rain and hover when feeding from flowers. The moths migrate to northern Europe but only breed in the warm south. Their wings beat fast enough to make a humming noise and this also makes them very difficult to photograph. Friday, September 18, 2009.

Alison Wonderland: January 2010

http://alisonashwell.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Alison Ashwell's Adventures as a Digital Artist. Thursday, January 21, 2010. A lot has happened in the last few months , too much to sum up in a few words. Hopefully, the worst has passed. This is a shot of York Racecourse in the snow at the end of December. I loved the shadows from the rails and the faded colours in the sky. Close-up, frost looks like anglar foliage or moss. Closer still, the frost crystals show off their geometric shapes. The crystals remind me of spun glass. Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Alison Wonderland: June 2009

Alison Ashwell's Adventures as a Digital Artist. Thursday, June 25, 2009. I've been living in 'interesting times ' recently and not had much time for blogging. Hopefully things will calm down for a while at least. For once I was up at dawn around the Summer Solstice and managed to take these photos. The little round topped building on the hill is the Nice Observatory. This reminded me of some sort of sci film special effects-the sky looked like it was on fire. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Monday, September 13, 2010. International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Yes, once again, it's Talk Like a Pirate Day. On the 19th September. A chance to dress up in garb piratical, practice your "Arrrrr! S and get some serious timbers shivered. Many take the opportunity to make it a charity fund-raiser and raise funds and laughs at the same time. And if you live in Cornwall or will be there on the day, the Cornish Pirates rugby team. Sunday 3pm. You might even see a decent game of rugger!

Scribbly Cottage: December 2010

http://scribblycottage.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 31, 2010. Boxing Day walk to Cadgwith. Cadgwith is a picturesque fishing village nestled down at the tip of Cornwall, near the Lizard. A mecca for tourists with very un-vehicle friendly streets (unless you have a boat! We parked in the free carpark up the hill at Ruan Minor and with the dog bundled up in his new winter coat, headed off towards the steep footpath down into Cadgwith itself. It was a grey day with an icy wind to probe your unmuffled bits. Brrrr! Over the stone stile. The Or...

Gallo-Roman Recon. kinda. Entries by tag: web. Credo In Unum Webum. January 7th, 2010. Recent archaeological excavations at the W3C site at Sophia Antipolis, France have revealed a Roman inscription which shows that the W3C principles of an open, international and accessible Web predate W3C by almost two millenia. You can see the stone in its geographic context. Of 43 37' 1.54" N, 7 4' 4.75" E on Panoramio. The inscription, which has yet to be added to CIL, reads. Credo In Unum Webum.

Gallo-Roman Recon. kinda. January 3rd, 2010. For anyone who watched and liked Avatar; and ideally, is a linguistics/I18n geek as well). Its possible to learn na'Vi. The language spoken by the indigenous blue-skinned beings of Pandora. The producers of the film actually went to the trouble to have a linguistics professor create a constructed language with a consistent phonology, vocabulary and an interesting grammar that reflects how their society is organized. 2010-01-04 03:54 am (UTC).

Last rays - GRRk

http://nantonos.livejournal.com/6082.html

Gallo-Roman Recon. kinda. January 4th, 2010. Taken late last year; it had been (one of the few) gloriously sunny days in late December. The sun was setting and lit up the tops of the buildings. I liked this one of the neo-classical scene on the pediment of the Palais de Justice in the old part of Nice. (Photo links to other sizes). Nikon D90, Cosina Voigtländer Color Skopar 20mm f/3.5. Fred's blog: steam trains, coach trips and British food. A journey into the mysterious world of semi-retirement. I don't usually blog trips up to That London, but seeing as I do it so infrequently these days I suppose it counts as a day out. It was the annual pilgrimage to the Lexington to see my favourite band David Devant and his Spirit Wife, but I thought I'd go up early to catch an exhibition or two. On my way to Leighton House. To see the Perez Simon Collection. Just round the corner! Opposite Eusto...

Scribbly Cottage: February 2011

http://scribblycottage.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 14, 2011. We went for a nice Saturday morning stroll over Gwithian beach. The swell was heavy and waves were breaking high against the lighthouse rocks. One poor lady misjudged the waves as they broke on the beach, and got caught with her little dog! She saw the water coming too late, tried to run for it.but fell over! The 'Better Half' surveys the scene. No surfing today, me 'ansome! At least the dog's happy, snuffling and scratching in the sand. And aptly named for it's appearance.
