http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2009/05/fis-got-talent.html
Saturday, May 30, 2009. Friday night was the annual FIS Talent Show. I worked with two other teachers to coordinate a range of acts from 3rd through 10th graders. A student recorded some of my favorite acts and posted them on youtube. First is a pop song sung and energetically danced to by a 5th grade student:. One of our 10th graders is going back to Korea next year, so he wrote this beautiful song reflecting on his three years at our school:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2009/06/movin-on-up.html
Monday, June 15, 2009. Last winter, on a day when I was feeling rather cold, lonely, and miserable, I noticed a ray of light shining through the clouds, hitting the balcony of the upstairs apartment. Since then I dreamed of moving upstairs, and this week I had my chance. Here is a shot of my old place:. And here is a shot of my new place! I am now on the third floor of the same building where I've been living on the ground floor since August. It is brighter, breezier, and has a view! End of) School Days.

Fukuoka You!: April 2009
http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Near Ohori-koen Park there is a "Japanese Garden". This struck me as funny because we are in Japan, so what other kind of garden would you expect? 160;Still, they charged us a few hundred yen to wander the grounds of this lovely garden. I never knew it was there before but I am sure I will go back! I have never taken so many pictures of flowers in my life, but I am so thrilled with the spring I can't help myself! 160;Still, I love Manu Coffee! 160;I was reminded of Portland.

Fukuoka You!: February 2009
http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2009. A typical scene on the Fukuoka subway. Mayonnaise. Food for ages 0-100. The Japanese love their mayonnaise, yes they do. A beautiful snowy day, which I didn't really get to enjoy as I was home sick all day. Still, I went for a short walk, and snapped this shot on the bridge I cross to get to school everyday, looking back at my neighborhood. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2009/06/end-of-school-days.html
Wednesday, June 17, 2009. End of) School Days. While my school is ending this week, Japanese schools only began the academic year in April. Kindergarten students are easily recognizable by their bright yellow hats and backpacks. We had two awards ceremonies at school today, one for elementary and one for the high school. Here is a wonderful 10th grader receiving the "Spirit of the School" award. Me and my 10th grade ancient history class:. Super cute orange dress, Ali! Reminds me of my wedding dress).

http://fukuokayou.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 28, 2008. Since Jinny was my first visitor I was a bit nervous about choosing the best things to show her around Fukuoka. I'm still getting to know the place myself! 160;The city itself seems most exciting at night, so during the day we set off to visit some of the places I'd read about that sounded cool. Here is my lunch, Yanagawa-style steamed eel, rice, and eggy "noodles". If you want to see more pictures, check them out here:. Friday, September 26, 2008. I've been here seven weeks...

Friday, January 23, 2009. We've just begun the second semester at Fukuoka International School, which means I am halfway through my first year. In some ways it has flown by (I've done so much, and yet feel like I'm still just learning how to survive here) and in others it seems like I've been here forever (my beloved Portland seems so far away! 160;I've learned a lot so far, and am slowly making friends and always discovering new cool things about Fukuoka. .
