A Literary Sojourn

Friday, October 9, 2009. Decidedly Dickens; A Shake of Shelley. Day 6 was busy starting in Portsmouth at the southern end of England and ending in Broadstairs (Kent) on the east coast north of Dover. On the way, we stopped at Horsham, the home of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley; and at Rochester, another of Dickens' haunts. Here's a picture of the Dickens home where Charles Dickens was born; the primary reason for our pilgrimage to Portsmouth. What a study for an antiquarian! The Rochester Cathedral (as se...

A Literary Sojourn: September 2009

http://aliterarysojourn.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 26, 2009. Day 4 - Wrapping up Jane and Lacock continued. Day 4: what a beautiful day. Except for Day 3, the weather here has been spectacular! Sunny and warm but not hot. On this day we enjoyed a couple of capstone Jane Austen events and explored the little village of Lacock. Our last event in Bath was a formal Georgian dinner; and I mean FORMAL! Chapter 2 - Jane Austen's Bath and Lacock. Day 3 broke gray and misty meeting our expectations. We took a walking tour of Bath; our guid...

A Literary Sojourn

http://aliterarysojourn.blogspot.com/2009/09/at-around-530-we-reluctantly-left.html

Tuesday, September 22, 2009. At around 5:30, we reluctantly left the village of Chawton to return to Bath. We had to run to make our 8:00 reservations at Sally Lunn's, the famous bunmaker's restaurant. Here we are enjoying our 'trencher' dinners. What a wonderful anniversary! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Day 4 - Wrapping up Jane and Lacock continued. Da. Chapter 2 - Jane Austens Bath and Lacock. Day 3 b. I couldnt resist adding this awesome photo Dan t. Out the side door. We immediately stumbled u...

A Literary Sojourn: Chapter 5 - Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Fish n Chips

http://aliterarysojourn.blogspot.com/2009/10/chapter-5-rime-of-ancient-mariner-and.html

Monday, October 5, 2009. Chapter 5 - Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Fish n Chips. Here Colerdge's desk and some of his actual quills. We left Netherstowey for Salisbury to see the cathedral. It was in Salisbury that I had an encounter with a parking stanchion. Driving was more of an adjustment than I thought it would be; I just had no sense of depth on my left so dimpled the left rear fender and removed a small piece of trim. It wasn't major but it was frustrating. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. May 16, 2015. Today I spent about ten contemplative minutes sitting on a bench in the shadow of the Chicago Water Tower amidst the hustle and bustle in the center of the Magnificent Mile. I imagined how life must have been in the area when the Water Tower was built in 1869, when it was called the Chicago Water-Works Tower. There would be horse and buggies on the street, not cars. A completely different world! May 12, 2015.

The Birds and Other Stories by Daphne Du Maurier. December 11, 2016. I cannot believe that, after reading and really enjoying. The most famous story in the collection has to be. Which I enjoyed as a film but preferred as a short story. Even before the birds begin to attack (which happens very quickly – Du Maurier dives straight in to her story), there is a sense of unease rapidly building:. The ending too was beautifully done, and this is definitely one of the best short stories I have ever read. In whic...
