Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: When I show you I just don't care...
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2009/06/when-i-show-you-i-just-dont-care.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Thursday, June 4, 2009. When I show you I just don't care. When I'm throwing punches. When I'm broken down and I can't stand. Would you be man enough to be my man? Yeah, lame, it's Sheryl Crow I know, but this song applies too well on too many occasions here and has too many jokes with Heather that it's perfect for this story.). Without further ado… just another story to add to my interactions with people:. June 7, 2009 at 12:00 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Prefe...

Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: October 2008
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Hole-y mosquito nets, leaking sink pipes, mud pedicures, and feminist rant. With Daniel, Mabel’s Kaaya’s husband who I’m not quite so fond of. Pleasant guy but borderline extremely annoying when it comes to re-telling the same stories, first in Swahili, then in English, then again in Swahili, then again in English, and by the time he starts to say it again in Swahili, I lose my cool and say NIMEFAHAMU! Went something like this:. And he just told u...

Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Monday, June 1, 2009. I’m living in a foreign country but I’m bound to cross the line. 8220;Hello, can we take your picture? 8220;Take picture, you know…” (then holds up the camera as if I didn’t understand). 8220;Uh, yeah, I get it. Why? 8221; (put in your head the best three year old baby talk with Middle Eastern older deep man voice accent). 8220;Because we’re nice people.”. Hole in the wall restaurant/guest house that has an “Alice in Wonderland” themed gard...Miserable...

Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: September 2008
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Amanda- you are advised. To take a cab to bring you home because there are some loose fierce dogs along the way. Benno”. Baba Received this text from my host dad on African time, of course, but hakuna matata. Loose fierce dogs, really? Not pick-pocketers, rapists, murderers? Just rabid beasts that could shred us to pieces? Terrific. Welcome back to the city, I suppose. So… classes didn’t actually start today. Surprise! It's amazing how wireless ...

The Vegan Dessert: What Christmas Means to Me
http://vegandessert.blogspot.com/2007/12/what-christmas-means-to-me.html
Sunday, December 23, 2007. What Christmas Means to Me. Some how, some way, Miller grew up without cable television. He missed, and continues to miss so much: Dirty Jobs, Man v. Wild, ESPN, Nickelodeon, Flavor of Love. The list goes on. I guess I can imagine a world without cable. If I weren't such a big sports fan, cable TV wouldn't be all that important. That is, on everyday but Christmas. Wake up around 6. Watch A Christmas Story as I eat/get dressed. Watch A Christmas Story while I read the newspaper.

Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: May 2009
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Everything just about closes after 7pm. Few cars, but loads of bicycles. There were a handful of close calls to getting run over. Dodoma is home of the Gogo tribe, who are a notoriously musical tribe and invented the infamously Tanzanian ‘marimba ya mkono’ (hand instrument), but didn’t see any live music either. So that’s that. Dodoma was a letdown, but inspiration for something else. Another busy week around the city! Bring it on. The conversatio...

Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: Feet in the sand with a cold beer in hand
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2009/06/feet-in-sand-with-cold-beer-in-hand.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Monday, June 8, 2009. Feet in the sand with a cold beer in hand. Yet another trip to Zanzibar. Absolutely cannot get enough of the place and almost feel silly for not transferring to the university in Stone Town when the strike happened last semester. Such is life and everything like those things happen for some sort of reason. Then add in loads of backpackers, great music, and acrobats playing with fire and all sorts- you’ve got a party that was bumping until 5am. And I...

Amanda's Adventures in Africa!: January 2009
http://amandatatum.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Amanda's Adventures in Africa! Tuesday, January 20, 2009. January 19, 2009. So many folks have asked, “How was your trip to Tanzania? 8221; and I believe most of them are expecting a “Great! Did a safari, met the host family, went to Zanzibar, snorkeled, toured and beached.” And maybe that’s really how I should answer; most folks probably don’t really care much beyond that. But it really was much more. And after being home a week, I am still trying to process precisely how I feel about it. You are a piec...
