Stomp Off: The Reset Button
http://stompoff.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-reset-button.html
Thursday, 30 May 2013. The most important skill to have when you dance, in my opinion, is the Reset Button. This is a big red button that's wired directly to your dance ego. A few examples from my own dancing experience:. Stop Please reinstall ego and reboot. I was invited to substitute as a teacher at Cat's Corner. totally exciting! Yech That pride's been in the fridge too long. Good thing it's garbage day. The first time I saw a video of my dancing. Yeah, it's actually pretty clearly not you, it's me.

Stomp Off: August 2013
http://stompoff.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Friday, 16 August 2013. The larger world of dancing. Last month I had the opportunity to take a series of classes in Contemporary Dance at Cat's Corner. Working on dance through such a hugely different lens is an inspiration and a challenge, and it's bringing a lot of ideas to the surface for me about dancing in general and the reality of swing dance culture (at least, my OWN swing dance culture). Have I misinterpreted contemporary dancing's appeal? Feel free to add your voice. Monday, 5 August 2013.

Stomp Off: Great dancing - why I'm still a beginner
http://stompoff.blogspot.com/2013/04/great-dancing-why-im-still-beginner.html
Friday, 19 April 2013. Great dancing - why I'm still a beginner. I had a chat with a fellow dancer spread over a few weeks. she's absolutely amazing, and in spite of her having danced less years than I have, she's gotten to the point where I happily accept tips from her about my dancing. We were talking about what makes a dancer great, outside of our own values and preferences. At least I did. What's to be done? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). All the Cats Join In. Dancing, Music, Dance Lifestyle, And All That Jazz. January 27, 2015. About Safe Spaces in the Dance Community. Warning: this post addresses issues with sexual assaults in the dance scene. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably read Sarah Sullivan’s testimony. It’s a hard and shitty conversation to have, but it’s an important one; one we will be proud of having. A tragically necessary one. Every time this kind of behaviour comes to light, we seem to collectively think “oh, so. This is a male problem, an...

Stomp Off: A Few Music Suggestions
http://stompoff.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
A Few Music Suggestions. Music I use in classes, I'll try to put a few new favourites up here regularly. not a complete list by any measure, but meant to complete the usual suggestions you'd hear from other swing dancers. This above all, I ask of you: if you're face to face with a local musician, and you like their stuff at all, put some money in their hands! I can't believe you're in love with me" - Combo Royale. Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" - Reynolds Brothers. Jersey Bounce" - Ella Fitzgerald. The Rig...
