Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Thursday, April 21, 2011. Those end of the year things. We homeschool with the help of a weekly co-op, where Thomas is able to participate in a class environment. They recently had their end of the year presentations. He was all nerves until the moment his teacher went up to the front, and then he was chomping at the bit to get up there. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Those end of the year things. Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Monday, June 11, 2012. God, me, and Clive, Day 2: The Green Book. Clive begins his first chapter in. The Abolition of Man. I doubt whether we are sufficiently attentive to the importance of elementary text books. The Green Book, as he calls it, was an English book used extensively in secondary level British schools beginning in the 1930s, and is Lewis's launching point for. The Abolition of Man. That's Clive. Now, he begins constructing his bomb.

Renew: Failure
http://the-watkins-family.blogspot.com/2013/01/failure.html
Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Saturday, January 26, 2013. Have you ever wanted something badly and strove for it in every way you knew possible? Prayed, waited, acted, risked, cried. And then, you got it! And you failed in the keeping of it. The finger of failure pointed at you. YOU. With head turned down, the condemnation poured in, and you knew. You deserved it because you were not enough. Only, oddly, I wasn't met with condemnation. The tears still flow on this one! I am Stell...

Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Friday, November 12, 2010. The history and literature of dead ages emancipates us from immersion in the flood of our own hour. Russell Kirk, Eliot and His Age. I don't have the brain or time or flowing languange tonight. But I think this little beauty will go somewhere near the top of answers I will offer people when they ask why we homeschool. Is it because we're faith minded people? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am Stella, and I find this little bo...

Renew: Comfortable Guacamole
http://the-watkins-family.blogspot.com/2012/06/comfortable-guacamole.html
Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Friday, June 08, 2012. I eyeballed the laptop a few times this morning, and then glanced nervously at my highlighter riddled copy of. The Abolition of Man. What have I done? This idea of summing up the thoughts of a great thinker and writer (who, by the way, couldn't make it short himself) is looking like an inspired moment I'd rather think my way out of. The Abolition of Man. I have often wondered of Clive, who saw both World Wars, if this crystalli...

Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Unfinished. But so me. I do this. My head is an endless stream of ideas. some get wrapped up nicely, but others sit happily in the shelf of my mind, unfinished. This poem is one. Seven years ago, these words hit me in the middle of the night and I had to grab my pen. It poured out. and then it stopped. God is like that, I find. I wonder when He'll finish it. The Lamb whose death pardoned sin. The Man whose words gave life.

Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Monday, October 31, 2011. Thank goodness God isn't a southern mama. Worst day in very recent history. Child was late getting dressed and making his bed, missing breakfast. Extending grace, I made him breakfast to-go for our car ride. His response: I DON'T WANT to eat the breakfast you gave me. It's dumb. Southern mama response: (pours out milk and dried cereal and says, "Ok how's that? Crossed my narrowly parted lips a few times. Oh Father. Help ...

Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Sunday, August 14, 2011. They will know we are Christians. My mom is in a hospital in Tampa. She's just having a bit of trouble recovering from surgery without tremendous pain. Visiting her had been on my mind for 2 weeks, even before this development. As I tentatively considered dates, I ran the list of every reason I could not possibly go:. I live 800 miles away (or so). Here comes the coup-de-grace, I HOMESCHOOL. Ouch It started to get personal at...

Renew: to dwell
http://the-watkins-family.blogspot.com/2011/12/to-dwell.html
Reaction, renovation, recipes, reads, and reflections. Monday, December 12, 2011. I am one given to hastiness. Thanksgiving leftovers slightly cool, I would normally be making my list for things to accomplish by 12/24 (after dishes were done). But a stirring in my heart softly insisted that things could be done differently this year, and my heart was given two words to ponder:. Because you know, this, right now, is really the only thing you've got. RIGHT NOW. Five year old through the Walmart parking lot.
