I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! And they're so slippery, too. They'll be standing quietly in one place, and then you look back, and they've vanished. Good gosh, it was like herding cats. Fortunately, even though all of this counting was incredibly exhausting, I did get to clock some more awesome pictures of Córdoba and Granada (to go with all of the ones that I already have). The Córdoban Cathedral (that would be the mosque). Detail from inside the Alhambra. The second...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! NYR #48: Ride the Tren de la Fresa. Literally: Strawberry Train. Laura first described it to me as something for kids at the train museum, so I had a picture in my head of one of those mini-trains that they have at amusement parks, or a little train car in miniature that kids can explore. I don't really know. The hosts dress up in period (mid-19th century, maybe? NYR #7: Take a photo at the statue of the Oso y el Madroño. Sol is also whe...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! So friend Aubrey tagged me in a blog post. I'm supposed to tag another 11 people, but I just want to answer the questions. 1-What is your favorite thing to bake or cook? Chocolate chip cookies. Mine are perfect. Every time. (You can ask Aubrey if you don't believe me). When I was in Madrid, though, these salted fudge brownies. 2-What was the last book you read and loved? Well, The Fountainhead. And The Pillars of the Earth. Probably Gart...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! However, I've never had a Spaniard tell me that they thought I was a fellow Spaniard until this past week. Friend's birthday party, make some new acquaintances. Apparently afterwards, one of them tells my friend: "Oh, yeah. Diana seemed [insert random adjective here]. She's catalana, right? To which my friend replied, "Umm, no, she's American. What makes you think that? Dear Princeton Honor Code:. Nothing in this country works like it sh...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! NYR #8: Wander through the Cecilio Rodriguez Gardens. I've run past these gardens just about every time I've been in the Retiro. They're very close to the estanque where I rowed, but for some reason, I never took the time to actually enter them until the day before I left. They've also got a somewhat finicky schedule and can be a bit difficult to see because of it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Chronicled my move to Madrid for a year to st...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! Thank you, please. Perhaps my favorite part of Madrid is the public transportation (except for when the workers are on strike, as happened on Thursday). The metro and the buses went everywhere, and you could easily get around without a car. In fact, having a car is actually probably quite inconvenient in a city as large and cramped as Madrid. But it makes me wonder if I'll start saying "Gracias" to all the bus drivers in Madrid when I go...

I may live in my own little world, but that's ok.they know me here! And just like black bears are the best bears, doodles are the best dogs. Especially when they've got cartoonishly large noses. :o). La piel que habito. The skin I live in. It has several scars - chicken pox, surgeries. It has a lot of freckles (Thanks for pointing them out and thus prompting me to wear sunscreen every day, R!
